Capcom Offers New Details On Super Street Fighter IV



As if to enlighten fans while simultaneously reminding them that Super Street Fighter IV is months from release, Capcom has issued a fact sheet complete with new info and assets from the upcoming SFIV update.

The release does contain some already known information, such as the inclusion of classic characters Dee Jay and T. Hawk, as well as new addition Juri. Even so, word that the game will include the classic car and barrel bonus stages and a 2vs2, 3vs3 or 4vs4 team elimination gameplay mode, should be welcome info for anyone wondering why they should drop even more money on Street Fighter IV.

+ Team Battles: Up to eight players can participate in 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3, or 4 vs. 4 team elimination battles.

+ Endless Battle: Up to eight players can participate in an endless elimination online match where the winner stays on and plays against the next player in true arcade fashion. Spectators can also chat with each other as they watch the match.

+ Replay Channel: Players can view recorded matches and discuss the match while watching replays of great matches from players around the world.

+ Tournament Mode coming as DLC after launch.

+ More classic Street Fighter characters re-imagined for a new generation of gamers, including favorites DeeJay and T Hawk.

+ New challenger: mysterious female Juri is the first character in Street Fighter history to utilize the Tae Kwon Do style.

+ Bonus Stages: Return of the classic car and barrel bonus stages made popular in Street Fighter II both available in arcade and challenge modes:

- Car stage: Annihilate the car with regular and special moves before the time runs out.

- Barrel stage: Players are given 20 barrels and must destroy as many as they can within the time limit.

+ All playable SFIV characters will be unlocked out of the box.

+ Gameplay has been rebalanced to provide challenges for both newcomers as well as the most seasoned Street Fighter pro.

It's almost depressing to see that SSFIV goes back to the standard coupe of Street Fighter II for its car-bashing bonus stage. Following the tradition of Street Fighter III, in which the tiny Japanese car was upgraded to an SUV, SSFIV should really feature something bigger. Something like a schoolbus, or an aircraft carrier.

(Though, it should be said, loudly and repeatedly Capcom wins double points for the picture of Mike Haggar on the billboard in the background.)

Am I reading this correct? They are re releasing a game that just came out this year? And are including additions that any other game would market as DLC? And on top of that they plan on releasing more DLC for the re release?

And people think regular day 1 DLC is a scam.

I'm hoping that they shed some light on whether or not I can expect a PC version soon. I don't care if it is delayed, I just want to know that its coming. Most of my friends have the PC version as well, and if it ends up being console-only I'm SOL.

You think that eight new characters, new stages, four new modes, gameplay tweaks, new music and who knows what else does not warrant a standalone release?

If that's your line of reasoning, why release a sequel to any game at all? Surely Modern Warfare 2 could have been handled as DLC.

And anyway, the game isn't even being sold at full-price. You'll probably end up paying less than you would if each separate feature were released as DLC.

Please Capcom, The past thing we need is another Street Fighter game that isn't properly numbered. We have like 10 street fighter games, and only 3 are numbered porperly.

Looking forward to this, hopefully the balancing will be spot on. (DJay will be a pain though im sure).

So much new stuff wouldn't really work as DLC i don't think, and i dont mind chucking more money into the Capcom sequel machine anyways.

In this day and age no I don't. If we were still in the PS2 era maybe. Unless the game is going to be sold for 20 bucks (800 points for 4 characters and all the bells and whistles X 2) I fail to see how this is anything less than Capcom selling you the same game twice (just like they were planning with RE5 extended or whatever). And if it was a sequel then release it as a sequel. Complete with better graphics and a complete overhaul (new story, new bosses ect ect). And do you really think you are going to be saving all that much after you buy the DLC for the new game?

I swear Capcom is cometing with Activision for the MOST GREEDY DEVELOPER award.

So are more characters then Dee Jay and T. Hawk showing up? I was kinda hoping for R. Mika, the physics in this game would have done her justice.

You clearly don't have an understanding of fighting games if you believe that all the stuff being put into the sequel doesn't warrant a standalone game. Your lack of understanding also shows when you say that it would need a new story and new bosses to be considered a worthwhile sequel (Story and boss fights are a very small part of the game).
The real game lies in the online modes (for most people) which is seeing a complete overhaul with many extra features that you would rarely see in your average DLC. Add that to the 8 new characters (Which, if you knew about fighting games, is a lot of content) and balance tweaks that the fanbase has been crying out for (lol Sagat) and Capcom is giving it's biggest update to a Street Fighter game yet.
Plus, it isn't going to be sold at full price.
You should have been around during the Street Fighter II days if you think this is bad...

I was. I was there popping quarters into it like there was no tomorrow. And I was also there for the Mortal Kombat days which didn't need remixes and turbos and whatnot. Midway somehow managed to make sequels not re releases.

This is exactly the kind of thing the L4D2 boycott was all about. So what about all the people who bought the original? Are they going to be able to play with those who have the newer version? Probably not. So they are going to have to go out and spend what another 40 bucks for a game they just spent 60 bucks on? For the same game with a few tweaks and a few new old characters. I cannot honestly believe I am the only one who thinks this is ridiculous. Especially in the day of digital distribution.

You might not be the only one thinking this, but I doubt anybody who knows how to play any fighting game well will agree with you. While it may not seem so these changes are very big. It will completely change the game, what works so well in this one, may not wok in the new one.
To get an idea of what the change will be like, dig some old games find a copy of Street fighter III: Giant Attack and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Play them both and tell me that you could have done that with DLC.

I'm quite suprised by that, Tae Kwon Do is one of the biggest martial arts going.

Also, you can keep T Hawk... I hate that guy with a passion.

I don't know. Just because they called it a sequel doesn't mean that it wasn't an incremental update: what you usually got was a 2-3 new characters and a couple more color swaps for old characters. Also, remember how MK3 did get a whole bunch of ultimates and golds and whatever updates it had? What about Tekken? It's called Tekken 6 but it's really an incremental update to Tekken 5: DR. Same thing. And seriously, who the hell plays fighting games for story?

We've also been told that SSF4 isn't going to be a full-priced game, priced more like the expansion that it is. If that's true, then it doesn't really matter which way we're getting it.

See this is where I disagree. Back in the SSF2 days there was no online play. Re releasing it wasn't a problem because you didn't need to buy it. If you had SSF2 and I had SSF2 turbo it didn't matter to either of us. You could come over to my place and play it or I could go over to yours and play yours. With this though no one really has an option. EIther you buy this new one or your online play is significantly reduced making that 60 dollar purchase less than a year ago useless.

I can see where this is coming from but considering SSF4 will contain new online modes and tweaks that vanilla SF4 won't have, would there really be a difference if you had to buy them as a downloadable expansion pack as opposed to going to a store and buying them that way?
