First Thought: Oooo.. That looks interesting. Definitely need to take a look at-
*sees only in China*
Second thought: -....crap.

Seriously I do want to try a Monster Hunter game Capcom, but you never seem to make them for platforms/in regions I can get.

Okay, settle around. History time.
First we had Monster hunter, and it was good.
Sequels were made, and they too were good.
More were made but Capcom began to favor the Eastern market more, taking more and more time to release the games to the West.
Thus began the decent.
At first, it was the move to strictly the PSP for us.
Then came the memory card mandatory upgrade just to let the game load between areas at a reasonable pace.
Then when the PS3 was coming out, we bought it in hopes of a soon to be released console Monster Hunter.
They betrayed us.
Without warning, they switched to Nintendo, abandoning all of the Playstation users who had come to love the game, making those with no more money to spend after their purchase of the ps3 be left with no other option but to abandon the IP, taking on similar titles such as Dragon's dogma and Dark Souls though, they were not the same.
In the midst of all of this, there were rumors and legends of Eastern MMOs of the game, even blatant ripoffs that in comparison to what we had, were far more advanced. They too never saw the shorlines of the Western front.
Now we come to the present, given images of what could have been, now only locked away into a region far from our own where even if we found a way to play it, would lag beyond use.
At this point, many others and myself are insulted.
As a hammer user for over 980hrs, I will never buy another Monster Hunter game again.

Yesterday, I would have told you that Capcom is dead to me. Today, I believe that I can feel a faint pulse.

Don't get your hopes up. Three words pretty much summarize the fate of all Monster Hunter PC titles in the West/US/EU regions.

Monster Hunter Frontier.

Look it up.
I played a fair bit of Frontier in Japanese and I can honestly tell you the game is pretty shit. You aren't missing out on much.
Really?

Thought it was the same formula as every other monster hunter.. only that its on PC and has the most monsters of all MH titles?

So if its basically the same as whats on consoles.. why is it shit? Oo

"Monster Hunter" and "MMO" have always seemed to go together like butter and toast in my brain. Apparently Frontier didn't have enough of a market for a Western audience. To be fair, the game itself is pretty niche - it's not like in Japan, where games in the series are enough to sell consoles. A subscription model probably wouldn't work in the US.

Free 2 Play seems like an interesting alternative, that I'd be willing to give a shot. My only worry is that it will end up being Pay 2 Win.

you missed the part where sony demanded they crowbar in trophy support, and gave absolutely no help when they asked to make it online, and then essentially said "pfft, who are you going to go to? nintendo? HAH!"

capcom didn't betray you, sony did

apparently it's very much pay2win, the good armours are DLC, the good monsters are DLC, the style ranks are DLC, the buffs needed to make grinding take a lifetime instead of three is DLC (and limited time, so you need to keep buying them)

and it has a subscription fee.

imagine if WoW and GW2 had a baby that required constant cash transfusions to stay alive, and then also occasionally demanded money to buy luxuries for it's hospital room

The thing I love about Monster Hunter Ultimate 3, since that is how I got my first fix, is that the mats were reasonable, the bosses were reasonable, the equipment was reasonable, the items were reasonable, I can go on and on with how well the game is designed over all. In an MMO, especially with a game like Monster Hunter, I am now going to expect grinding the beginner monsters a good dozens of times just to get the mats for a single piece of armor. Than they will add armor deterioration to keep players from getting to the last monsters too fast. Than there are going to be a stupid amount of debuffs to delay the kills longer. Especially since it will be a Chinese MMO...which tend to be very grindy.

I love monster hunter the way it is. I have history with many MMO's and MMO's mostly fall under the same category of grind immensely for a single piece of armor. want the whole set? Spend a good month, well for me anyways because I have terrible drop rate luck.

Point taken. Still stuck with the PS3 though so I'm gonna have to settle with what I've got for now.

I, at least, am farily certain it is not shit, else Capcom would not have supported it for 6 years and through about 14 expansions by now.

I'm no business guy, but I'm not really sure why expanding the userbase of your free to play MMO is a bad thing.
Starting in China makes sense but not expanding after the fact, to me, does not.

I do realize translations and providing NA and EU servers are not free, but one would imagine they would get enough sales to offset the cost and increase revenue.

But, again, this is Capcom, they frequently don't make sense. Monster Hunter Frontier would have done well as a PC title here, as we have a large constituent of PC gamers who are thirsty for good Japanese titles.

Just share the fuck out of the video and talk about it a lot so they notice some serious Euro/US market trending and actually think about releasing it here.

Damn I love monster hunters if they'd remove the time limit on some of the boss missions I'd love it even more.

I hate grinding for new equipment and enjoy the challenge of facing tough bosses with start equipment and fighting for hours... I'm weird.

It doesn't stop from Capcom being so stupid.

Here's a question...

Why does the game need ah hoc party? Why not make an actual online service? And why can't they implement torphies? I heard before that trophies are EXTREAMLY easy to add in. So that is just Capcom being lazy. Not saying Sony isn't at fault, but Capcom isn't innocent either.

I have to agree with you. Even if the whole relationship with Sony was bad, they still could've gone without regionlocking the servers. I know they really want Dragon's Dogma to work, even letting a dlc include Monster Hunter weapons into it, but they shouldn't make it a one or the other thing.

The monster hunter team does NOT like being bullied or even nudged. At all. Stuck in old ways and stubborn as piss? Yes. Very much so. BUT, whatever man. Also, adhoc party uses the PS3's main network power, which im sure is superior to both the vita and the psp's. Can you imagine monster hunter with latency issues? Yuck.

How cruel can they be? They trickle just enough monster hunter over here to get us hooked while holding back the good stuff for Japan until we have to go learn japanese just to get in on it. Then they make the biggest, best one yet... and they make it chinese?! If you fuckers don't bring this over here for once I'm seriously about to knock down some doors with burning torches.
