Once they ruin Dead Rising with this strategy is when they stop getting my money. Hopefully that day won't come.

So our games aren't selling because we aren't making nearly as great a product as we used to... I got it! Lets just make a whole lot more of these new inferior versions, and much quicker! BRILLIANT!

Suddenly I am considerably less enthusiastic about a Dragon's Dogma sequel...
Why exactly they are aiming for a 2.5 year gap between each sequel which is still half a year longer than most other developers and they are hiring more people to achieve this without sacrificing quality sounds pretty good to me.
Because if there's anything that Bioware has taught us, it's that hiring more people guarantees quality.
But this isn't Bioware so that is a pretty pointless argument
Not really. The point is that people are a substitute for time only if you don't care about quality. That applies to any skilled craft.

Hmm... 2.5 years isn't too bad, but there's nothing wrong with releasing games 3-4 years apart. Just as long as they don't decide to cut that down even more and make everything a yearly franchise.

If they made a Mega Man game that is to Mega Man X, what Mega Man X is to Mega Man 1, they could potentially recover some of what they have lost.

If it just and just had a really decent cast of characters/bosses/level design/music/plot that wasn't completely ridiculous and rebooted the series they could do well. Even if Megan Man 11 were to arrive and be better than 9 I'd be happy. I loved 9, I thought 10 was a step backwards. Not unlike how I hated mm6 compared to the first 5. Or X4+ after X1-3.

But for some reason they have let their core franchise grow wild and die on the vine.

A new Strider game would be an easy PSN title to put together.

RE6 looks ambitious, if not very fun or interesting. They could easily reboot the Dino Crisis idea, or tweak it into a new IP though. Much like the characters in it, RE just won't die.

Dragon's Dogma was good enough, even great at times. Sadly it was also terrible at times, and its DLC is adding nothing to the game so far.

I'd like to think that they only have room for improvement with DD2, but it could easily turn out to be the next Dragon Age 2.

I've never cared for DMC, and I sold Bayonetta the day after I bought it. Action may be good, but you can only tolerate so much bad plot and characters between ass kicking. Not even the fan service could cover a game that made me feel soiled to play it. Especially when the fanservice crosses past the line from alluring to cartoonish and pre-juvenilely insipid.

I'll just appreciate the fanmade hentai, and you can keep your fucked up game thank you.

They could also surprise everyone with another new IP that excites people.

"Our sales have sucked this year. What should we do?"
"Make better games?"
"No, we'll just make MORE games! If we pump out more game this year than last year, the probability of them selling well will increase!"
"BRILLIANT!"

Pumping out more, poorly made games faster.... Ah.. yes.. take some cues from Atari circa 1980.. that ended well and I'm sure it will again.

Can't wait for them to start releasing 2-3 versions of the same Street Fighter game every year... with on-disc DLC AND day-1 DLC....Oh wait.

hey, capcom

shortening the development cycle INCREASES instability

just wanted to let you know

also, making more add ons instead of actually working on the main game isn't technically growth, it's just becoming more transparent that you want more money for the same game

and that don't fly with us

Sounds like I can expect "Super Ultra Mega OK Street Fighter Turbo Alpha Beta Gamma HD Edition" sometime in the near future then.

Expect Capcom to announce the following games for the next 12 months.

Street Fighter VS Virtua Fighter
Strangely enough I was saying that this could happen in the future around four years ago.

Well by that argument if I spend the next 20 years making a AAA game by myself it is guaranteed to be the best game ever made which it wouldn't be. All they are doing is putting in the same number of man hours into a shorter time frame by recruiting more people, if they were trying to do this without extra staff quality would fall because they would be more strained but because they are it just means that more parts of the game will be created at the same time which will reduce development length.

I honestly don't care so long as they don't fuck up future Dead Rising titles. Capcom hasn't come out with anything since Resident Evil 4 that I found worth my time. Dragons Dogma looks rather nice, but not something I feel I must have.

I was more commenting on how their games have been crappy lately, not necessarily that short dev cycles are a recent trend. Capcom is the EA of the East DX
My misunderstanding. I haven't been following Capcom too closely for the past few years, but I was never a fan of the {Make average game, inundate market with sequels} procedure.

Guess gamers just found replacement for Ubisoft in The Triumvirate of Evil of Game Publishing.
Since Ubi dropped (or promises to drop) their much hated DRM, we needed someone to step in and fill that void next to EA and Activision. And Capcom deliveres!
Gamers everywhere, rejoice! You have renewed target for your hate!

Good grief, not only will you get Day One DLC at launch BUT also Day One BUG FIXES for all the broken code found in the first five minutes of playing your newly purchased game!

Great job Capcom, here's a tombstone

your gonna need it....

I was really happy about dragons dogma and i expected so much out of it.
I loved monster hunter and always wanted something on the big screen without having to buy a wii.

Now i'm scared. Really really scared.

Capcom is not my second least favorite publisher without reason.

They don't localize lots of good games, even to series they localized before.
They are some of the worst offenders of sequelitis, especially with fighting games where they make new editions just for 2-4 new characters.
Their QC is horrendous, there is rarely a release without typos.
