Well, it works pretty well compared to the other systems we've tried out, hasn't it? Communism sounded nice on paper, but people got greedy. Fascism kept the country in order, but corruption set in. Socialism... Well, that hasn't really gotten a proper field trial yet.

as long as salaries for certain races and genders are significantly different on average, i will never support capitalism. it punishes being unlucky, no matter how smart or hardworking you may be, the best way to make money is still being lucky, and that isn't right either
the last time we went through a period of pure capitalism, the country was split into two classes, the rich and the poor (industrial age) followed by a "gilded age" as the rich got richer and the poor got poorer followed by the biggest economic meltdown the world has ever seen (great depression). obviously there is a point where there is too much government regulation (USSR) but so far most of the socialist countries out there seem to be doing pretty well

Capitalism works because it assumes you are in control of your own capital. It's your job in life to make sure that capital is well placed and safeguarded... thats YOUR responsibility.
If you put it into a mismanaged hedge fund that goes under thats YOUR problem because YOU didn't do your homework.
And if you're REALLY worried about whether you're putting your capital into a safe investment, you talk to a financial consultant, or a couple of financial consultants if you have the time and money to do so.
Nobody should feel guilty for being rich if they worked for it and were clever with their investments. I worked for it, I invested it, I got (getting) a good return because I did my research ... why should I feel guilty for all the people who didn't do their research, dumped their money somewhere, buried their head in the sand, and when they emerged found it was all gone?
Saying poor investers got 'unlucky', is like saying people who did get "lucky" didn't do their research and were playing the lottery with their earnings.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

Communism has its own highlights, but when applied to a population larger than a small community, it is exceptionally flawed due to human error. Why do you think the Soviet Union collapsed? Debt. They spent money on an arms race with the U.S.

Of course a lot of people are missing the point that we're writing these threads on our PC's which we also use for gaming, only capitalism allows us this possibility for two mains reasons,
1. if all wealth was distributed equally we probably couldn't afford Personal Computers.
2. the people who make the astounding leaps that gave us computers in the first place work best when they can do what they want when they want and know that in return for their long hours they will be well rewarded, I wouldn't work the 16+ hour days that the original designers of the computer chip did just to go home to the same lifestyle as a traffic warden.

As a whole I have mixed feelings about Capitalism. I consider my self a Socialist - Democratic. And when I say this I seem to get a lot of flak for it. People always say I'm only that because I'm lazy, because I'm poor, and they also imply that if your poor then you're dumb, uneducated, lazy, and that's the only reason you're a socialist.
And because of that state of mind alone, I hate Capitalism greatly. The idea to let people start their own business is a good one. Everyone deserves a shot at success after all. At the same time though Capitalism seems to have this odd affinity with bull shit. These businesses will always tell a few lies or bull shit there way around just to make a profit. Disney will push a few lemmings off a cliff and tell us that lemmings do that just to sell better. Oil companies will tell us oil is perfectly all right for the environment even after oil spills fuck up our water.
Oh, and would you look at that. It always seems to be the lazy poor left wing liberals who always clean the messes up, even with just a toothbrush in some cases.
Capitalism is where you never have to apologize for fucking someone over. We've managed to keep track of thousands and thousands of years of our existance and yet we're still fighting with sticks and stones, clawing our way to the top. Insurance companies will find anyway to back out of their promises, businesses will form law suits even when they're the ones taking your ideas, and the decent honest businesses are probably bought over before you can say 'Sold!'
You call it the American dream, I call it the mirage. Just like the ones you see in a desert when your dehydrated dying and crawling over dunes and endless sands. If we were to follow Capitalism to it's fullest definitions everything would be owned by corporations and everything would be for profit. Who cares if a guy has a broken leg after serving our corporation for fifteen years? Fuck him. He should pay for working for us and injuring himself, stupid prick.
Of course though Socialism isn't without it's flaws either, and given that these flaws have been analyzed to death by the definitely unbiased Americans I doubt I need to go on.
If we were to follow Socialism entirely then everyone would be paid the same no matter what, and I think that's just as flawed as Capitalism. Because surely, someone who works hard 12 hours a day shouldn't be paid the exact same as a guy that works 4 hours drunk.
As I said though, I'm a Socialist Democratic. And as a Socialist Democratic I believe that borrowing ideals from Capitalism and Socialism is the way to go. Because for fuck sakes, Socialism is not Communism!

In theory it is a perfect system but then again any socio-economic system is perfect in theory even facism. Its not really capitalism thats the problem its America because any system we try to use here hasn't really ever worked. I'm trying not to sound like a misanthrope but human beings are just too greedy and arrogant to not abuse eachother.
I support some of the Fordism ideas of capitalism in the 50-60's but today's Capitalism is just about Toyotism and Freakin GREED!

Its not bad, their have been far worse. I'm liking socialism nowdays. Its just like capitalism in regards to rewards for hard work, except they don't screw over people who can't afford food and healthcare.
America is a perfect example of the pitfalls of capitalism.
I agree communism is a pipe dream, not enough incentive to work and far to much incentive for corruption. Socialism seems to be the good middle ground, you get the proper care for your people that communism values, and you still get all the incentive to work and be successful that capitalism provides.

Everything else aside, wrap your mid around this. Go stand in a line at the state dispensary where you will receive a booklet of coupons that can be redeemed for food - distinct portions of obviously bad tasting food (why try making food taste good if people are going to eat it anyway) and that is all you can receive. That is what happens in socialism/communism. Think it's far-fetched. My dad who lived in communist controlled Poland until it collapsed did just that all his life.

Capitalism is the only system where people have real incentives to develop skills, treat each other civilly, and produce quality goods. So, yes, I very much support capitalism.
