After my purchase of MW 2, I became interested in recording some of my (totally awesome) gameplay footage. I know that the best way to do this is with a capture card, unfortunately I have no idea about which brands to buy. I'm looking for one that's relatively cheap ($40-60), and that can record in HD, or in really good quality. Do my fellow Escapists have any experience with them, and if so, can you give me some advice?
Most people like dazzle capture cards (by the brand pinnacle) However, capture programs tend to lag like shit and have all kinds of problems. What i use now is called the pinnacle "Direct video transfer device." Basically you just push a button and it'll record the MP4 directly to a usb flash drive/external hard drive. No lag, good quality, no problems.
EDIT: also with capture cards, anything under 80 dollars generally comes out looking like shit. And HD capture cards are on the other side of way too fucking expensive. The one I have was 80 off of eBay, and that's the basic price you're going to get on most of the decent (but not premium) cards.
Dazzle capture cards. It works all right, and it's generally not too expensive. Usually comes with any software you need for editing as well, which is a plus.
Yeah. What was the point of that post, after I clearly explained it in the OP?

I bought it over a year ago, but it does the trick. I think they've released some better models since then, but they are more expensive. The price on here is £30, but I picked mine up for £15 when I looked around in computer stores instead of online. Also, you need to pick one suited to your needs, rather than a generic one. (Some are better for PS3 I'm told, I used mine for a 360, and apparently Wiis need the video capture not the DVD capture for some reason)
