Can't believe I'm the first one to post this, being an Australian, but we just got the news that Casey Kasem, host of 'American Top 40' in the 80's and the voice of Shaggy from Scooby Doo has died.

Being a child of the 80's I used to love listening to Kasem's silky smooth delivery as he introduced the latest tracks hitting the charts over in America; and as Shaggy his voice is iconic. He also did the voice acting for Mark from the English dub of 'Battle Of The Planets' (Gatchaman), which also endeared him to me.

Farewell Casey; you were a true gentleman of the airwaves.

First I've heard about this. I knew that he was missing after he had lost his voice due to dementia so there was a big dispute over his estate between his wife and his kids. The wife wasn't exactly a spring chicken, having been married to him for 34 years, but he had 3 kids prior. So now his family gets to really duke it out over inheritence.

On a side note, the buses for the local major theme park play his old Top 40 recordings on a loop. I predict that will never change but would like to be proven wrong.

Damn, really? Never was a fan of Scooby Doo and I certainly never watched American Top 40, however to me Casey Kasem would always be the voice for this guy:

R.I.P Good sir.

There's a bit of a story behind why Casey left Transformers in season 3. Season 3 featured a few episodes where the Decepticons were taking over a small Arabic nation called Carbombya (I wish I was making that up). Casem who was of middle eastern descent quit the show over it and as far as I know never had anything more to do with the franchise.

Now I kinda feel like binge watching Scooby Doo and crying.

R.I.P. Casey.

Aw, man. I fucking loved Scooby-Doo when I was younger, and I still occasionally watch episodes of What's New, Scooby-Doo.

R.I.P., Casey Kasem.

That's honestly depressing. This year's been pretty hard on our childhood memories and/or favorite entertainers, hasn't it?

Bob Hoskins, Harold Raimis, Justin "JewWario" Carmichael, James "Ultimate Warrior" Hellwing, and now Casey Kasem?

*SIGH* This is gonna be a long year, isn't it?

Wow...

Billy West (Ren and Stimpy, Fry, Bugs Bunny, take your pick) tells an interesting story where he was working with him on episodes of Scooby Doo, and Kasem being a militant vegan would often suggest that instead of them eating meat Scooby and Shaggy should be eating Veggie snacks.

I always grew up with Scooby Doo's buddy Shaggy being the voice I heard the most.

It is really sad to hear, and all the news that came from his family in the last month was terrible, but at least he provided joy to people either as a Top 40 DJ or as a cartoon voiceover, and I know I loved him for it.

RIP Casey Kasem.
