Last night starting from about 8 at night, my friend and I became addicted to Castle Crashers. We played until its end and about halfway through insane mode until who-knows when. This game is instantly fun and is like an EMORPG (Extremely Miniature Online Role Playing Game). Everything about it is quite good (even though repetitive and rash).
Gameplay:
This game is sort of boring at first until you get to the real first slew of enemies in the first level (Near the castles potion vender). You soon realize your true potential as your blast magic into one guys face turn around while he is stunned by your magic and smash another's face in with your sword.
The four main characters are an ice man, a fire man, a poison/acid man, and finally an lightning man. The levels begin easily enough and you are able to level up quick. The higher levels you gain the more experience you can put into either strength, magic, defense, or agility. They all work on certain aspects of your character and you can pretty much do anything you want with your character. There are multitudes of weapons to choose from, ranging from chainsaws to lollipops. The weapons can create a +to your magic abilities or strength, but take away from other sections like agility or defense. Also with leveling up your characters are able to learn new combos, with which to destroy your enemies worse. The multi-player aspect of the game is wonderful, like I said, an EMORPG! You all level and fight for gold and the princesses kisses. The boss battles are always entertaining, and can be somewhat challenging.
Sound:
The music is wonderful! All straight from the Newgrounds audio portal including artists such as,Paragonx9,Xeiros, and the likes. Even though after awhile the music does get repetitive, it is still a great soundtrack. The boss' always have funny noises to make along with any enemy in the game. The game's sound is designed quite well and there are very few glitches during game play. Here is a list of its sound track if you wish to listen, http://forums.thebehemoth.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=622.
Graphics:
Even though a 2D game, Castle Crashers delivers.
The magic used and the fires are actually quite entertaining. The styling of the text is also very very Alien Hominid like which is not that bad of a thing, except that the game reminds me so much of Alien Hominid, it scares me. The Dan Paladin style of drawing shines its brightest in this game. The demented bosses, the funny looking characters, the blood. It is all quite aesthetically pleasing.
Overall:
I know my reviews are always very short, but if they are too long I find things to get boring really fast. I think that this game is wonderful and highly suggested to anyone with Xbox Live available to them. I truly enjoy this game, and won't be bored for awhile.
