So I just bought Castle Crashers of the XBL Arcade for 1200 microsoft points, and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by this game.
Just playing with one friend over live I was immensely entertained, and have been having more fun with this game than some of the games i have bought recently for full price (I'm looking at you Mirror's Edge)

What do you guys think of it?

I played it with my friends at the local anime club (because I like anime) and found it to be weirdly fun. The first part is...I know the guys who built this thing, as I tend to frequent Newgrounds when I need a laugh or a game to play. But second...this is a party game, no challenge. I know that's not an excuse, but think about it for a second. I didn't own the X-Box, the controllers, or the game. I was not responsible for reserving the room and no one would've expected anything of me more than to play the game. So, the price of free makes a game fairly decent. And if it sucks, you rag on it. But in the case of CC, let's just say it produced alot of "WTF?!" moments.

Some of my brother's friends have it on their xbox and it looked really fun. Pity it isn't on other systems too so I could play it as well.

Awesome fun the first few times you play it.. but not enough variety in the characters.. After playing it through three times I got bored of it, which was a shame as it reminded me a lot of the Dynasty warrior games, which me and my brother played to death. (seriously, perfect completes for 2,3, and 4 as well as all the Xtremes in between.) But yeah, had no where near as much replay ability.

That said, its a bit extreme to expect heaps of replay ability from a shareware game like that; i just wish all the characters had different moves, instead of heaps having the same generic special move set.

As my avatar might tell you, I love this game, it's probably one of my favourite games of 2008. It is a bit of a shame that a lot of characters use the same specials, but there's still a lot of variation, you just have to unlock a lot of the interesting characters.

Bullshit. I doubt you've played Arena mode online, or Insane mode. There's a challenge.

I love me some Castle Crashers. Now the online is fixed I've had a great time playing through the game with complete strangers, including a 50 year old lady from California who said my accent was sexy.

I've struggled to find a game once or twice, but overall there seems to be a solid community. Great game.

I downloaded the demo for the game and got my girlfriend to try it out. She really liked it and so I downloaded the full version so we could play more together. It was a lot of fun for us to play, but when we hit about level 20 we kept on dying. I'm not sure but I think we might have to do some grinding to level up so we can advance. Either way it's a really fun game.

I didn't really like it, you start out insanely weak so enemies take around 20 hits. I just really didn't want to go through the grind it would take to have the game go at a faster pace.

I have mixed feelings about this game.

Trying to play it on your own has the same problems as playing l4d solo (as in, the designers clearly wanted team play to be the focus of the game) and you will often be overpowered and killed.

Some parts of the game are just bloody unreasonable (such as the UFO escape, the Necromancer boss and most of the larger enemies)and require the patience of a saint, five health potions and 3 buddies (ready to do CPR) for you to survive.

Finally, I didn't get Alien Homanid HD, I don't want to get Alien Homanid HD and please shut the hell up about Alien Homanid HD! (I know that it was made by the same people but that doesn't mean they have to keep sneaking in adverts for it)

Other than those problems I think that CC is an alright time watser and co-op can be pretty fun if your playing with friends rather than strangers over XBL.

I always say to myself: a game that has an owl that shits so hard it dies is already a nominee for best game EVAR! Well maybe not best game, but awesome game nonetheless. I only watched videos on you tube but I already am jealous of those who had a chance to play it. I do not own a console and I don't think I will any time soon. Stupid nonexistent money in my wallet :/

Castle Crashers is sweet. Especially because the Insane Mode (or Flame Burny mode, whatever, it's been a while) makes playing through again worthwhile, even when your guy is level 60ish.

That said, I found it tough to play online with other people. Maybe that's fixed now.

Anyone get the king character DLC? Worth it?

I'd say it's kinda worth it if you really like being a medic. I don't know, the King is pretty cool once you level him up a bit, and the weapons you get with the update are pretty good as well (though a little overpowered), but the other character and the animal orb are both pretty much useless.

Ahhh... so if one is playing solo the king would be a good deal of Useless then, I imagine.

I am all for overpowered weapons though. Wouldn't ordinarily pay for such a trivial update, but I dig these Behemoth guys. They deserve some cashola.

If it does well enough they might port it for PC, I can't imagine it would be all that difficult to do. Haven't heard anything yet though.

I doubt it, the full version of Alien Hominid never made it to PC either, despite appearing on the PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and Xbox 360.

I loved Castle Crashers. I found it unreasonably fun, especially with a buddy. It satirizes beat-'em ups in a great way and provides some character development concepts in there to keep it fresh from its predecessors. Its actually my game of the year (though I haven't played many games from this year, but still). There aren't enough games with a really fun local multiplayer anymore. Am I the only one who would rather just play with his buddies on a couch than online?

I really enjoy it and think it's hillarious, especially the knight falling down the stairs in the beginning room! The game's good enough to play over and over, especially since I'm level 63 (I think) going through on insane mode.
