OK, I need this settled. Me and my friends are Catan freaks, and without fail, we end up debating how to ask to trade for resources. When one says simply "Sheep for Wood", it always get's mixed up. People offer sheep, when the fella wanted wood. There is always "I have sheep for your wood" or "wood for your sheep (he he)", or "I am offering my sheep for your wood", the list of possibilities is endless. How do you ask to trade?

I don't stick to just one, I say whatever pops into my head first. But you're right, it does get confusing sometimes.

Kinda off topic, but would you recommend Catan? I've heard good things about it, it's on XBLA right?

Yeah it's on XBLA, but it does not compare to the actual board game. Live takes a little bit of humanity out of it, but for ten bucks, it's an awesome game.

Wah? I only know of Settlers of Catan , the board game. Is there a different version? Which is the OP talking about?

Yeah, I was asking about Settlers of Catan initially, but the XBOX version is just called Catan.

Yeah, I have the board game, and it's great. Very different.

That made me laugh so hard I crapped a kitten.
Never tried Catan, though it seems fun and a few of my friends play it from time to time.

We have a simple pronoun formula for trading: "My X your Y". So "My wood your sheep", for instance. Keeps it short and unambiguous.

Sounds like someone is a New Zealander!

Sorry, had to make throw that sophomoric joke in there.
That's funny, I thought kiwis (and scots, and every other sheep economy based culture) had wood for sheep...

"I would like to trade x for y" is what is usually said when I play.

I suppose you could go for super-un-ambiguous and vaguely androidesque "Offering: x. Seeking: y.".

And, wow, there's Catan on XBLA? I really am going to have to get a Live account, damnit.

Yeah, the xbox version is pretty sweet. You can burn out a game in about twenty minutes. I was surprised with just how many people love the game. There are always people ready to play a match. For ten bucks, it's well worth it.
