I've been thinking about it and I feel that for me Games fall into two broad categories, Active and Passive games.

Active games are those that you have to focus all your attention on. Be it because or high difficulty, engaging story, Complicated Puzzles, ect. These are the games you set aside an evening for to truly get into them. Some examples being Super Meat Boy, Skyrim and Professor Layton.

Passive games are those that you only play with half your attention. These are the games you play while listening to a pod cast or watching a movie. These games are often simple and don't punish you to harshly if your attention wavers to something else. Some examples being Peggle, Dragon Quest, and Dynasty Warriors.

I find that these days with I tend to go more for Passive games because I find them relaxing after a day of work. When I was younger I had much more Time and energy to put into games so I would play more active games.

An interesting idea, to be sure, although I'm curious... What makes you say that Skyrim is an active game? I found it a perfect passive game, to be honest, as it came across to me as babby's first RPG. A lovely-looking world with poor game mechanics and an even poorer story. My enjoyment was improved immensely when I stopped caring about the narrative and instead just played it whilst listening to a podcast. But that's just me.

Dynasty Warriors is quite possibly the ultimate passive game franchise, though! There's just... something about effortlessly smashing through hundreds, if not thousands of mooks as an almighty Chinese hero(ine). I love it.
