Almost everything I hear about this game seems to be positive I like quite a lot of Atlus titles but wish they had a European arm rather than relying on other distributors, still suppose I better get importing right after I finish my run on Persona 4.

Honestly, I think part of the reason the game sold so well is because there's literally NOTHING else being released during this time of year and people just want to play some games.

Not that I don't think Catherine deserves to sell well. I haven't played it yet but I'm really excited to. I agree that because it sold well that it should encourage publishers to publish more eccentric Japanese games in the west, even if it was released "off-season."

It's still hard as hell but it was worth it. Now that I think about it that was the first Atlus game I ever bought. Wonder what else they have?
Atlus has a large and varied catalog. I particularly like their DS rpgs. Contact stands out a a quirky affectionate parody of old school rpgs. Also if you have access to a PS2 I think Odin Sphere is the pinnacle of gaming on that system. Likewise Birgandine was one of the highlights of the PS1 generation and still sells for over $100 on ebay.

Catherine, to my experience, was very well advertised and marketed. If you are a core gamer, chances are you at least heard about it and its general premise a long time ago, and they also made a demo. It's not my cup of tea, but it's good to hear it's doing well, and hope that Dark Souls does even better. Atlus always deal with their audience in an effective and respectful manner and the games they fund are always a breath of fresh air in an industry plagued by clones, DRM and microtransactions.

I think Atlus has proven between this and Demon's Soul's success that games there's still a place for unique games out there.

Hopefully other developers and publishers take notice.

Good, I'm glad Catherine did really well for Atlus, and I'm happy the game itself is doing just as good.

Congrats Atlus!

Excellent news. Now if only they'd port ANY of their games to PC... I'd buy em all.

Also, to who mentioned Recettear, it may not be massive as a proper jrpg, but it does make a lot out of what it has. Same the developer moved on into lamer, 3d waters after Recettear.

And if it ever gets released on Steam you could have another Recettear on our hands.
Is Recettear really worth playing?

To me it was just horrible cutscenes with done-to-death anime cliches that would make anyone who has picked up a book or seen more than just Naruto and the 90's classics want to slaughter the mainstream market, coupled with uninteresting shop gameplay, unrefined and tedious fighting and an overall pointless hub/world screen.

But that's just my opinion.
I found the shop gameplay enjoyable and some of the character interactions, while cliched, fun to read (I don't overdose on that much TV; if that explains it). The fighting was well... It had it's problems but enjoyable if you played the right guy.

But as you said, that's your opinion and one mans treasure is another's trash.

Well, sex sells, so I'm not that surprised. Just because many people bought the game doesn't mean everyone actually played it all the way through. It is nice to see this, though, as it will surely encourage Atlus to release more games in the west. Here's hoping for Persona 5!
