Catoony graphics = WoW graphics?

Ok so one of the complaints against Diablo 3 is that it has a wow like aesthetic. While I have no problem that people have a problem with that, I DO have a problem that it is completely untrue. Diablo may be a little cartoony but that doesn't mean it looks exactly like WoW. Me and a friend were bored while the servers were down so we went into WoW and were jared by the difference. Diablo 3 is not the only complaint I have heard like this. Some people said that Kingdoms of Amalur had a WoW aesthetic but it didn't, it had a Fable aesthetic. saying any cartoony graphics are WoW graphics is like saying Crisis 2 is a Doom clone.

I think "WoW Aesthetics" is mostly just shorthand for "bright, garish, too much shoulder pad."

There both by Blizzard so who cares if they look similar, if anything it is expected. Cartoony graphics means people can run the game better on lower end PC's/Laptops. If you don't like the graphics than play something else. Problem solved?

Now I know the topic creator is saying that not all cartoon graphics games mean they have to look the same, so I am not bashing you. I agree. Cartoon graphics does not mean they are copying another title.

Well people may use it out of turn but you haveto be blind not to notice the style in D3, there is absolutely no doubt they had the WoW design team on this, and this actually is their 3rd set of darkened visuals due the public outcry.

Probably because it does. It's made by the same company so they may be using the same inspiration/base even if the details are different. Not all cartoony games look like WoW, just the ones made by the same people. Kind of like if an artist plays something different than his usual, but he still recognizable since he sounds like himself.

No it's not. It's like saying Crysis 2 is like Doom 3. More graphical ability, but less ability to do cool shit.

That is what turns me away from Blizzard games these days: The enormous shoulder pads. I don't know why it bothers me so much but the enormous shoulder pads are in every Blizzard game to the point where you can judge Blizzard-designed character's strength not by their abilities, but by the size of their pauldrons. And that's just bizarre.

OT: Are the graphics for D3 that cartoony? My point of reference for cartoony is the cel-shading from Wind Waker. Now imagine if D3 was cel-shaded...
