Oh no, not a movie. Some little indie game that there are a few sites dedicated to, and the reviews I have seen are generally positive.
But as Yahtzee oh so cleverly points out, many reviewers could blow more intelligent and balanced things out of their ass.
Not a movie, an Indie Game. This is the indie game that made all other indie game makers say "Hey, we can do that and make money, instead of being nice and releasing it for free!" Yes, download it, and play through it. And there are three endings, just so you know, and you are going to have to work for the two that don't entirely suck/are actually quite nice.
It's a pretty good game. The graphics are really bad, and some parts are so bad at self-explanation that I actually died a few times just because some hazards blend with the actual ground. You also don't start with any way to defend yourself. Also I got stuck a few times because I thought something was a hazard when it really wasn't.
But overall it's a satisfying game with relatively tight controls. I say relatively because I hate the jumping physics, and the fact that they couldn't make the one weapon with limited ammo set to a separate button rather than 'switch to this weapon and hope you don't fuck yourself over.'
The main problems for me were the fact that you LOSE weapon XP every time you so much as trip, which is really bad in certain cases because if you're going for the best ending, your mobile ability gets completely screwed if you get touched even once by a certain boss, which generally means you're going to drown. Not even considering if you're going for the best weapon in the game at the same time. Needless to say I didn't have the patience to get any further with that. Also, the bad ending is... well. It barely even feels like an ending, and is incredibly lame.
You leave the cave and let the bad guy win. No talk or images of what he does when he wins. End. Made even more lame because your choice between the bad ending and going a step further to get the good ending boils down to a single fucking yes or no question.
The writing however is really good and the combat (aside from that aforementioned 'lose XP when hit' thing) is satisfying as hell.
If the graphics are a problem, it's being ported to WiiWare by Nicalis with a slight graphical upgrade. In case you're wondering, the remake is approved by it's creator, Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya.
