I just had a quick question.
I'm thinking of switching from Cingular/AT&T to T Mobile.
Anyone out there have T Mobile and can inform me about the network and such?

Appreciation in advance ^_^

Yeah, there are only two carriers that really work here. Verizon, and Union. But since your moving to the east coast, I think you would be fine with T-mobile. Wyoming is just kind of a giant deadzone for cell service.

I've had T-Mobile for almost two years, and I haven't really had problems unless I go to dead zones like southeast Ohio.

In my opinion, AT&T are borderline draconian in their policies.

A $500 deposit for opening a plan and asking for an iPhone? Ridiculous! Not getting it back for an entire year (and if you are late on one payment, they keep it entirely), also ridiculous.

I am currently a college student with a steady job, but not the kind of disposable income to warrant spending half of my months salary on a deposit, but I have the financial capacity to keep up with my bills, after all, I pay rent and bills at the house I live in.

Also, why did text messages double in cost? What possible justification can AT&T give for doubling the cost of text messages from 10 cents to 20 cents? After all, didn't someone say that text message cost for the providers is almost entirely negligble? (Link: http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/12/text-messages-c.html)

(This may sound like a rant on AT&T, but much of it applies to all cell phone providers)

First, thank you for the welcome.

Second, yes they are largely a luxury item. But at my place of employment I receive around 50 or so e-mails a day (only about 20 or so that I need to pay attention to), so that luxury item would transform to a tool that makes my life easier.

Also, I am fairly tech-savvy, and the tools that you can employ on an iPhone (You can play Sim City on them for God sakes.) are numerous and useful.

I could just be jaded because I went into the AT&T store, and sat there for about 15 minutes staring at the 16 Gig white iPhone I was going to purchase and then the rep told me "Okay, everything is in order, all we need is a $500 deposit!"

I chuckled, and told them I may be back if I win the lottery.

I know this is kinda shallow but I REALLY want to try out the G1 on T Mobile and not the iPhone. That's a big reason I'm looking at them.

I have a large, bitter dislike for Apple fanboys that defend Apple tooth and nail, without being able to take into account true criticism of an overpriced computer manufacturer.

But that being said, their mobile devices have always held a nice spot in my pocket, it would have been nice to have all the tools I need in one device. Although I loathe the iTunes interface, the iPod interface has always been easy to navigate. (Previous owner of: 1gen iPod nano, 2gen iPod Video, 1gen iPod Touch)

But their desktops.. not going to get started.

Yes, as a college student, I am shy about using any sort of credit. (Therefore I have none)

Although I do have rent and utilities that I pay off regularly, no credit card or other credit building tool. (And with the current economy, not exactly wanting to jump out and purchase a credit card.)
