I just watched the movie Gangs of New York and heard a song in it called "Dark moon High Tide." My question for everyone is does anyone know any good upbeat Celtic songs like that one. I tried googling and youtubing, but all i find is slow and lullabyish. Does anyone know an artist i may like?

BTW here's the song from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkEPczwWNVA&feature=feedlik

Lunasa is great. They have lots of upbeat stuff and also some slower tunes. Check this out:

Well I've personally got two favourite Celtic songs...

And

I first heard Bonny Portmore while watching the Highlander movies, which got me into Loreena McKennitt's work, but I like the Laura Creamer version better.

Hmmm...David Arkenstone, Enter the Haggis, Bill Whelan, and Ronan Hardiman might be right up your alley.

David Arkenstone has a HUGE repertoire of music, but I think his album The Celtic Book of Days would be a good starting place for you. Here's one song from that album, called The Festival. It's slow to start, but it's got some good whimsical energy a little ways in.

Enter the Haggis sort of treads more into rock territory, and most of their music has lyrics. Their songs don't all have the same ratio of rock and celtic. I'll give you three samples here, the first more folksy, the second more "rocky," and the third one of their instrumentals.

Sorry about the music video in this one, lol

And I am TERRIBLY sorry about the image in this one, I have no idea why they put that creepy dude there.

Now, Bill Whelan and Ronan Hardiman both did music for Riverdance, so you'll get a good variety from them. I recommend the album Roots of Riverdance from Bill Whelan, particularly the song Timedance '92, and from Ronan Hardiman I recommend just about any album, but the Lord of the Dance soundtrack might be a good place to start.

Hope that helps you :) If you want any more info, just ask.

Oh, and Loreena McKennitt might be worth a look, as well. Particularly her songs Mummer's Dance, Marco Polo, All Soul's Night, and Gates of Istanbul. I believe you can find all of those on YouTube.

The boondocks theme was alright but little slow. Enter The Haggis was too much like dropkick murphys, which just isnt the same. The rest while calm and relaxing and do enjoy, just isnt the same upbeat sound that i wanted. This is where i was getting frustrated. I just cant seem to find a song that i enjoy as much as dark moon, high tide. Dont know how to go about more searching. Maybe it is not celtic that i am looking for?

Hm, so you want upbeat, but not too much rock. Here are some songs for you to check out, but not all of them are listed on YouTube so they might be just a bit hard for you to sample without buying, but I'll throw a couple of links where I can. I'll list them by song name, then artist.

Equos Fair, David Arkenstone

The Coast Of Galicia, Celtic Woman [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_KUFBUC6Mg] (Give it about 50 seconds, most of the Celtic Woman songs have slower intros and then pick up)

Granuaile's Dance, Celtic Woman [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wzMfSiOkMQ]

Dulaman, Celtic Woman [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH7sg3UjVIQ&feature=related]

Victory, Ronan Hardiman [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lO1TRx46WY] (give this one about a minute)

The Ballymun Regatta, Donal Lunny [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03VvYPuQxus]

Are any of those any better?

Celtic woman was good but a bit too mellow. I liked Ronan Hardiman and David Arkenstone has some nice ones, Donal Lunny wasnt bad either. Much list but still not exactly what i wanted. But i suppose it will suffice.
