This is another forum of someone (me) trying hard to find a game within all known reaches of the internet.. However I was young and this game lies within the 1990-2000 era, it may have used DOS, the cd was grey however recalling the name is impossible...

Basic description.. it is EXTREMELY GOREY, vulgar language, death everywhere, the characters wear huge orange powersuits and have to survive against a seemingly endless swarm of alien creatures, during an intro the name of these creatures is broken up like an abbreviation, they have super sharp claws than can slice right through the player and his allies, it used a squad command system, full map with radar. It even had a chainsaw like effect, now this game had an extreme amount of gore, the type that you will always remember, you had to explore a large amount of closed in spaces, surviving seemed impossible. I can explain more but it reaches far back into my brain that i can only remember a few.. In fact this game almost scarred me for life as a child because of its gore and death. One mission showed you and 2 or 3 squads docking or entering a large complex, once that door opens it breaks loose, another had you behind in a line formation in a corridor, your turn is up when your allies die before you and everyone was armed with the chainsaw-like weapon... I can try to scrape for more but this game never seemed to mainstream and is probably forgotten. Any help would be appreciated!

I can't remember if the games name was the alien species or not, it is REALLY old

Couldn't say for sure but from your description it sounds a little like one of the old Space Hulk games, maybe?

However, just so you know, we do have a dedicated thread for these kinds of queries right here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.166417-Old-Games-you-remember-playing-but-cant-remember-the-name-of] so you might have better luck posting your description in there.

Not bad, the power armor is simple but these are not supersoldiers, in fact during the game you can hear all characters through the comm system, even them dying with horrible blood gurgling screams.. They showed fear, which puts 40k out of the question. One movie within the game showed a soldier clad in this armor sitting against a wall, the alien creature appears from a vent above and grabs him, pulling him into the vent clawing at him with the screams.. This was a terrible game as your team would die, one mission also had a radar system similar to Aliens if that helps, all these missions were different.. I have no idea if they were linear or not.

Another note, this game was first-person with an optional yet horrible 3rd person view, it was real-time not turn-based

Aye that sounds like Space Hulk to me as well.
Looking more into it and Space Hulk : Vengeance of the Blood Angels seems very close, odd I have been a 40k fan yet I never put these two together, man I must have been like 4 or 5 years old, this explains my thirst for guts and gore and powersuits, chainsword is for the win

Damn I never heard of this game and the 90's was my golden era of gaming. I dunno if that was what you were after, but as you mentioned Vengeance of Blood Angels looks freaking amazing in concept. I even played the tabletop back when I was a kid, and the intense gameplay of that back then would translate fantastically into a modern survival horror-sci fi shooter. Would make for some sick multiplayer/co-op too.

Man if there was a kickstarter or something to get this done I'd be behind it 100%

Let us know if that isn't the game you were looking for, sounds awesome regardless

You know, I never got the chance to play those games growing up. Of course, I didn't know Warhammer 40k even existed at that point. It probably would have scared me too much anyway. Now it comes across as delightfully campy:

Funny you should mention that...

The game appears to have more of an action shooter mindset than survival horror, though.

Heh, thanks for that, I just told my friend (the only other Warhammer fan I know of on this side of the continent) about it, and he reminded me about Deathwing too...looks like it'll be a while on the way, as it's a small team. Would be totally awesome if it keeps the Aliens influence and the creepiness with the motion sensor thing, but yea, looks like it would be a bit more action oriented.

Vengeance does look totally campy now, would've scared the crap out of me too back in the day, hell even Quake 1 and 2 did. But still does a great job of creating atmosphere and tense gameplay. Multiple mission objectives, tight corridors, quick-moving aliens that appear out of the darkness when they're almost on top of you, lumbering armor, it had all the right components for a horror masterpiece!
