No, this isn't a poetry battle. I am currently writing a book, for my own amusement only, of poetry. Admittedly, most of them are daft/rubbish, but there's a few good ones (by my own standards) in there.

As I've been writing it, various friends have set me challenges of words, phrases or concepts to use as subject matter. Current suggestions have included: eagles, pineapple, zombies, conspiracy theories, a super powered walrus that goes around committing capers, childhood memories and travel. And the word flange.

So, anyone who would like to set me a challenge, feel free, at a minimum (should I get that many) I'll do at least 5 that inspire me the most. I hope they won't be too bad, bit that's the luck of the draw I guess!

(thanks for taking the time to read my drivel!)

Write me a poem about a guy who is asking other people for sources from which he can write poetry about. It must be the most meta poem of all time.

Mine is fairly simple. The poem must have lines that rhyme with silver, orange, purple, angst, or scalp.

A poem on finding ones identity amidst the chaos of an ever-changing, contemporary urban life while suffering from amnesia and chronic depression.

Heading out now, so thanks for the suggestions so far, shall have a think and start on them, but for now, here's the first:

Apologies in advance!

Meta -

I once knew this guy
Whose inspiration was running dry
No matter what he'd try
His imagination would just die

He couldn't get a fresh idea in his head
So he turned to the interweb
he thought to himself I'll create a thread
Get other's inspiration instead

His first received suggestion was better
Than he thought he would get(a)
He'd follow his instructions to the letter
And create a poem that was meta

A poem that was about itself being created
He hoped it was worth the time his suggester had waited
And so the poet paused, breath baited
As he wondered how his poem would be rated

How anbout this:

Write a poem of no more than 12 lines (individual lines can be as long as you want). You must also mention all of these countries in the poem, but only one country per line: Kongo, Holland, Mongolia, Sweden, Italy, Japan, Argentina and India.
Additionaly you must also mention atleast one fruit per line, it can be whatever fruit you want but you cannot mention the same fruit twice. Finally the poem has to tell the story of a Sparrow. Also the poem must still rhyme and have good pacing.

Good luck!

How about 'words that sound silly, then you realise they're only ever used in really serious contexts'?
