So, I'm gonna trade in my DS for the 3DS, but I also have to downgrade my XBL subscription to Silver (I never used the damn thing anyway), but I'm not sure how to do that.

It appears that the only thing I can do is call them to have them cancel the subscription, but
that seems really stupid, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something.
From the site, the only menu related to the subject is to change what kind of Gold subscription I have.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on?

Yeah, you have to call them up. They used to have a way to do this from their website, but they got rid of that with the last dashboard update. Fucking pain in the ass.

Really?

That's utter bullshit.
(sigh)

Now I have to turn on my Xbox, too.
Gotta get the goddamn serial number...

You don't need the serial number. All you need is to be able to verify your gamertag, the email address used to create it, and possibly the phone number associated with it.

Well, that's a godsend.
Turns out I was looking at the wrong part of the page, and was seeing the requirements for hardware support.

Thanks.
I suppose you've had similar issues in the past?

Wait, I thought the silver had almost no features. Why bother paying for Xbox live at all?
Silver is free, and I can still get DLC for single-player games, when I do play them.

I will get the payed service again in a few months though.
This is just to cut the bills so that the 3DS won't hit us so hard.

Microsoft seems to have gradually been making it more and more difficult to unsubscribe over the past year or so. It used to have a simple button for it, then it was removed. Then you had to go through a bunch of pages and advertisements to downgrade, then that was removed. Then you had to pretend you were upgrading to gold again just to get an option to turn it off. Now you have to bloody call them and wait on hold.

Yeeeah. They don't like people quitting gold. It's a pain.

This is terrible for me. I made a email just for the account that I've never touched since I made the account. I'm screwed if I ever need to quit.

Yeah, this sucks bollocks.
We should petition Microsoft, but they'd never listen.

They're only hurting themselves by doing this, you know.

No they aren't. By making it to difficult to unsubscribe for some to bother, they will make more money off of gold subscriptions. And people will keep on getting memberships with the free weekends microsoft has, which (if you have a credit card on the console) keeps on charging for more time unless you unsubscribe. It's a good plan if you want to screw people over and make money.
