This is a creative exercies of sorts for the avid RP'ers on the site. The idea revolves around the reversal of a habit I like to think is at least partially common among writer. It's become something of an addiction for me, I will happily admit.

The habit is this: when writing, one will sometimes listen to a particular song that will get one either into the mood of the scene or, more particularly, the mood of the character. In simple terms, if you're writing something violent you listen to a little Slipknot first. If your character is a tad emo perhaps you turn up some My Chemical Romance beofore you start typing away.

The question and the game is, can this cycle be reversed? Instead of deciding on a character and finding a song to fit the mood, could one decide on a song and find a character to fit the mood? In essence, crafting a persona to fit with his/her theme music rather than finding theme music to fit with a persona.

Can it be done? Lets find out!

[HEADING=1]The Rules[/HEADING]

1) Poster 1 will put up a link to a song.

2) Poster 2 will listen to the song and write up a character sheet for a person who might fit the attitude/mood of the song. A simple way to think of it is, "Whose theme song might this be?" and go from there. The character sheet must include:

Genre: Where is your character from? Fantasy? Steampunk? Horror?

Identity: What is your character? An elf? A cop? A crazy man?

Name: Pretty self explanitory.

Appearance: What's your character look like?

Personality: What sort of person is your character?

Background: What kind of life has your character led?
There's no need to go too in depth in any of the categories but be complete enough that others can fully imagine your character. You may also wish to add at the end why you feel this character matches the song, but that's not required.

3) Poster 2 will link to a different song.

4) Poster 3 will listen to the song and create a character sheet before linking to a different song. And thus the circle of life continues.
______________________________________________________________________________________________

Make sense? Any questions? If you wish to add more categories (or even write a passage with your character in it) feel free. I very much encourage additional effort but they are by no means necessary.

On that note, let the games begin!

Here is the First Song.

I have a pretty clear character in my mind. Let's see what you folk come up with.

[HEADING=1]EDIT - Read It[/HEADING]

I intend this as a forum game but it occurs to me that there is one very substantial difference between this and a forum game. The posts actually take a good solid time to make if you want them to be quality. As such, I'm establishing new rules to avoid complete ninja'ing chaos.

1) Poster 1 links to a song.

2) Poster 2 calls the song and provides the link to the next song.

3) Poster 2 edits the character sheet into his post.

4) Poster 3 calls player 2's song, links to another song and edits in the character sheet. And thus the circle of life continues.

If you like this game, follow these rules in order to make sure we don't get banned for being a chaotic mess. Thank you for your time.

Holy crap, I make playlists for my characters! This game was made for me!

Hold your horses Khedive, i've got a dude coming up you just might adore. I'll edit him in here.

Genre: Simple, my friend, I'm going with cyberpunk all the way. We've got repetitive beats with cursory vocals and lyrics, with a nice little vocals/chorus segment in the section. I'm actually tempted to branch into Cyberpunk/Noir for a good feel of motion and intent. I know, a bit skippy for noir, but it fits this character in relation to the setting I'm thinking of.

Identity: Simple, this is the villain of the piece. He runs the cyber-cities nest of drug dens and strip clubs, he's the big dog in a city of wolves and he knows it. Just imagine that kind of bastard waltzing into one of his own clubs with this playing, smiling at the women and smiling at the men, to please the former and to scare the fuck out of the latter. He's about control, and leverage, and he likes it.

Name: I usually put way more thought into names than this, but I'm tempted to go with something vaguely angelic or biblical for his egomania, but also something he can laugh while saying, because he's that kind of person. I'm actually going to go with something a little vampiric, starting with a 'V' and moving straight into a vowel, A is too confronting and 'O' is bombastic, and we don't want to make him overly outlandish, so we'll go with Vincent.

Appearance: I'm going with white hair, possibly long but tied back, and a basic black suit. It's the most stylish of the suits, your basic black, possibly eschewing tie for an open collar and an 'I'm so awesome' approach. He's got a big grin, white teeth, and blue eyes. He looks synthetic, because he is. He's got a slim watch, and is always dressed perfectly or so perfectly casual as to make it look unreal, because it is.

Personality: Arrogant, egotistic, brutal and cunning. He's earned what he has, and is now abusing it as he always intended. He cares little for people and his display of warm but threatening cheerfulness is all a lie, he's sociopathic but knows how to play his cards in the right manner. His character is shooting for Lawful Evil even if his operations are not, and when angry he's chaotic to everything in reach. Exists to further himself and his desires. Loves classy and stylish things, he'd be a peacock if he wasn't a raptor.

Background: Not worth discussing, he's been a bastard and always will be, he's not as important as the characters in the story, who are more operating around him than opposing. For an RP, i'd bake the usual 'Rise to power' crap, but he's not really as fun in depth as he is on the surface, and if you don't overplay him then you don't need to go deeper.

And this is a song I use very, very often. I'd like to see what another mind comes up with when using it. You can spot where some of my characters use this at times. As it's a theme, rather than a song, and you'd rather use an actual tune, I'm going to go with This little gem. Another one I use ironically for my darker characters (all of them)

Genre: Mystery

Identity: Crazy homeless man.

Name: Pete

Appearance: Old hat, ragged clothes, no shoes

Personality: Pete is... well, crazy. He has been on the streets for many years and suffers from schizophrenia, constantly repeating the same words over and over again, 'White light, white light'. How do you get your child to eat their vegetables? You tell them that if they don't Pete will find them and take them to the white light. They will gobble that broccoli in the blink of an eye.

Background: No one know much about Pete, he is too crazy for anyone to get to know. The one man who ever tried to get to know him, is now residing with the white light.

Shapsters, you appear to have been ninja'd.

I'm gonna go with Ultrajoe's song just cause I've already got a character in mind. I'll edit it into here.

This was the second one. All I got from the first was a samurai in a very nice suit.

Genre: You know what? As blatantly happy as that song was, I'm gonna go with horror. Psychological horror but horror nonetheless. There's a rapidity to the beat that's just ... worrying. And the way the singer goes up and down in tone just asks to be translated as insanity.

Identity: I think we're talking the minor boss of survival horror game. Characters stumble into an abandoned insane asylum looking for safety and find The Doctor. He offers them safe-haven while simultaneously being just friendly enough to frighten everyone. Eventually he goes for the kill.

Name: For this? Something understated. Something that really shouldn't be creepy but has the potential nonetheless. I'm gonna go with Gene.

Appearance: Shoulder length wheat colored hair, matted with blood in places. He's wearing a lab coat, and the coat is pristine despite everything else in the place being on the verge of collapse. Brown eyes that don't quite blink enough. Thin, sort of starved looking, with a sallow face.

Personality: He's the "Love Me!" type. In your face all the time, asking you questions, trying to be your friend but never quite connecting. He should have a slight violent streak to him that he makes up for with almost worrisome displays of kindness. The obssessive type. May or may not still be talking to a dead pet cat.

Background: I'm thinking he used to be a patient at the hospital, at some moment of distress he broke free and started killing people. Now he keeps the actual doctor and few of the patients who were his friends locked in a basement and drugs them regularly.

The next song I have fond memories of. I know what character I made from it, lets see what you do.
