Characters like Thane Krios

I finished Mass Effect 2 yesterday, having found Thane a few days before and as soon as i found out his backstory I got the feeling that I had met this sort of character before, or more specifically the whole, "I am going to die very soon and I'm very sad about it"
Can anyone tell me where I might have seen it?

Depends how specific we're being. I can't think of any other examples of a religious alien assassin with a terminal illness, family issues and a penchant for flashbacks.

However, if you mean just the imminent death thing then there's plenty around.

Laura Roslin from Battlestar Galactica. That one chick from one of the Final Fantasy games. I'm sure there are others.

Abe from Hellboy looks almost exactly like Thane. The do have different personalities, but both of their stories are depressing as hell.

Funny, I don't remember Thane being sad about it. He seemed at peace, like he accepted the fact that it was his time to go after a life of hardship.

It might just be I interpreted his contentment as sadness.

By a character "like" Thane, I was referring to the "going to die soon" part, because I'm certain I've seen it before and it isn't from any of the above sources.

There's a John Wayne movie, The Shootist, where the main character has cancer... Great movie, I'd recommend seeing it if you havn't already.

Actually, if I remember right... it was the last movie The Duke ever starred in...
