the obvious choice here is raiden in sons of liberty. i fucking love raiden. he wasnt that girly, only whined a few times, and he did some pretty manly stuff. he was more a man than me anyway. i know a guy who has played metal gear solid 1 and 3, but refuses to play 2 just because of raiden, and that's just sad.

another guy people seem to hate is brucie from gta iv. yeah, he was annoying, but he was overwhelmingly hilarious, and not a bad guy. and i bet half of his issues was because of his brother mori, so you cant really blame him.

Ah...the "make vrex360 say Ashley Williams" thread!

So yeah, anyway, what he said. I like Ashley a lot (arguably my favorite female character in Mass Effect) and I seriously can't fathom the degree of insane hate she gets for absolutely no fair reason.
Honestly the Ashley that people seem to be seeing when they start up their angry accusations is nothing like the Ashley that is actually present in the game.

So yeah, other than that... the Arbiter from Halo 2. To this day I rate him as miles better both in terms of character and role within story then the Masterchief, his plot actually has depth for one thing and he emotes and shows signs of personality more frequently and the whole religious zealotry that he later starts to question is far stronger as a narrative device then what Chief gets, on average anyway.

The interactions between Brucie and Niko are one of the best parts of the game in my eyes.

Link. The vast majority of hate seems to be because he's a silent protagonist. But most of the haters are also active members of The Church of Freeman.

Macbeth. When we had to read that in Senior yr of Highschool, i was the only one that liked him and felt bad that his wife drove him to insanity.

Any character from Final Fantasy 13, except for Hope. Everyone is right in that Hope should go die, but I liked all the other characters in the game, especially Snow. He's probably my second favorite FF character behind Auron.

I've seen a lot of hate against Allistair in Dragon Age, but I found his lame jokes oddly amusing.
Oh yeah, I totally agree. I once saw someone calling him 'whiney'. Everyone he knows in the entire game is either dead or dying, and he remains relatively cheerful. How is that whiney?

Same goes for Kaiden. He pretty much says nothing to you unless you talk to him, at which point he tells you about his life. This makes him whiney, apparently. I just don't see the logic.

I always took Kaiden with me in every mission in the first Mass Effect.

I got really upset when I sent him off to fight the Geth in a tower and got the choice to save the mission (and Ashley) or save him.

My opinion of Ashley was that she's a useless crybaby and would absolutely need saving. Kaiden? He's awesome. My great friend, at least, besides Garrus. He can take care of himself, damnit!
So I saved Ashley, let the bomb go off and heard Kaiden died.

It didn't help that I accidentally romanced Ashley. I didn't want her, but hey, achievements need unlocking!

That whole argument with her on ME2 opened up old wounds. I hoped she was dead instead of Kaiden, but instead she got another chance to whine at me during another game. Luckily, I dumped her in favor of Miranda.

Yes, I know. I could've easily gone back to a previous save and changed things around after the news came in, but mistakes like this makes my Shepard more human.

Alistair in Dragon Age: Origins, and Niko Belik from GTA4. A lot of people find the annoying, I really liked Alistair and I found Niko's story to be quite interesting.
