Raiden from MGS 2
Hope, Vanille, Lightning from FF XIII
Tidus, Yuna, Rikku from FF X.
Paine from FF X-2.

Most of them are pretty hated for being whiny emo douchebags but when you think about it, most of them have a damn good reason to be such. As for the others who aren't whiny emo douchebags, I just like them, OK? XD
haha oh how we have similarities, i never get annoyed by those characters either! hell i prefer them to actually show emotions rather than be cardboard cut outs like alot of wprg's out there..

Well, I don't think he's hated. but Thane Krios, I can't see anyone who shows him the love he should get!
I never really used Thane in my party (I was the same class already, saw no need) until I saw a certain part of his loyalty mission

00:24-00:40

He was in my party every mission after that.

EDIT: Right, forgot to answer the question. Despite a recent thread showing an awful lot of love for him, I remember how hated Alistair was on this forum, and I thought he was a great character.
ah yeah highly agreed! i remember for the first 6-8 months DA was out there was much backlash about him in which i sat to myself wondering why...i love his honest dry sarcasm! him + any female character are hilarious to listen to when they have their random talks while adventuring.

Morrigan from DA:O everyone i know said she was a heartless ***** who was just trying to screw with you. I liked her as a character and found her sarcasm and banter really enjoyable

Jack from Mass Effect 2. I liked how her personality matched her backstory and appearance. Yeah, she was an abrasive *****, but that was kinda the point.

But a lot of people hated her guts.

Ah well.

Right with you there on that one. I liked Morrigan.

Some people didn't like Garrus in the Mass Effect series. I thought he was awesome.
Umm... that's not an unpopular opinion. Damn near everyone I've heard from liked Garrus.

But my choice would be Isaac Clark, because I just finished Dead Space 2 and was really blown away by how well they implemented the character. Everyone calls him generic but I don't see it.
Standard characterization test: describe Isaac's personality without referring to his job, appearance or any of his specific actions.

I honestly thought Navi was helpful. Maybe her annoyance got turned off in my copy of OoT?
Now, the Na'vi... They can go die in a fire.

(sorry, I had to make that joke, for the sake of the Internet.)

Jack Marston. I was annoyed that you were told you could play as a hero or an outlaw, but no matter what you did John would play the hero in story missions. It would make me feel disconnected whenever I did something outlaw-ish, so I gave up on trying that.

But then you get Jack, whose alignment isn't pre-determined by the story and has motivation to go in either direction. He feels more like a direct avatar for the player, and therefore makes the open-world gameplay feel a little more open. Aside from that, I really did not have a problem with his character, mainly because he's just John with a higher voice.

Carth from KOTOR.

I don't know why, but a lot of people seem to really hate him.
Really? I didn't know that a lot of people hate him. Sure he gets a bit whiny at times, but he's not that bad.

And as for me, Id have to say the Scout from TF2. He's not just my favorite class to play, but I find him really funny too, but nobody seems to agree with me.

Kind of a semi obscure example would be Souma Ogami from Kannazuki No Miko. All the other fans hate him, I like how he isn't a whiny little ***** like most male anime leads.

I really liked Squall from Final Fantasy VIII, but a lot of people seem to hate both him and the game a lot. It has been such a long time since I played that game that I don't really know why I liked him that much, but it is probably because I identified with him.
I never saw the reason for hate behind Squall or FFVIII either. I like both of them.

Also Shadow the Hedgehog. Admittedly, only from Sonic Adventure 2 though. He never really came across as emo, just confused about his past. Then he died and he never came back to life.

Favorite female character in Mass Effect by far. Haters may whine and moan like crazy to their hearts content, but I don't care. Ashley's great.

Hey, high five. Jack is definetly my second favorite female in Mass Effect.

Ashley Williams and Garrus are great. Williams wasn't actually whiney or anything, and I didn't really consider Garrus emo either...plus, he was an awesome sniper at ME 2. I really disliked Jack though. Yeah, I know there are people like Jack in real life, but they're annoying also.

I damn near fell off my chair.

*ahem*

Anyway, I know I've poked fun at you over your Ashley... thing, but I do agree with you. She gets a lot more hate then she deserves. She wasn't my favorite or anything, and I cheerfully renegaded her arse when she started making snide comments in Liara's direction, but she was still a solid and well-executed character.

So yeah...

*high five*

I've said this on every one of these threads, and I'll say it again until my voice works no more. Ashley Williams. She seemed like the most real, the most understandable character in the entire Mass Effect universe. She's my favorite character in it, and I will be extremely pissed if she's just another cameo in ME3 like she was in 2.

From what it seems, Ashley Williams in Mass Effect gets a lot of hate and I'm not sure why, I actually liked her, she was fine to me at least.
She's kind of a racist, nothing like the KKK level, but saying that she can't deferente Aliens from animals is like saying that there is no difference between black people and dogs. Not to mention that she bitches to you if you romance Liara and last but not least - she is a Christian, and you know how 13 years old react to things like that. She wasn't a bad character though, in fact she was probably the most human character in the story.

Personally I like Rinoa, but I get it why so many people disagree with me.

Aerie from Baldur's Gate 2. Somehow the consensus became that her whining and mediocre character build made her worse than the other healers (who, other than Cernd, were just verbally abusive and various ranges of useless). I liked Aerie.

Yeah, sorry about that. I actually remember thinking to myself that the first thing you would be treated to would be a giant picture on your message board but by that time I had already posted.

I actually don't remember all that poking fun at me stuff but regardless thanks for agreeing with me on the most part, at least about the disproportionate degree of hate she recieves.

Just a small hint; Samara or Jack/with implants = rather critical.
Implants!? I could see Jack using some but Samara? Geez, have you seen that chick? [/kidding]

OT: Yeah most everybody from FFXIII. I was even fine with Hope after he dealt with his problem rather than just shooting angry glares at Snow for most of the time he was anywhere near him. Other than that can't think of any.

Wait, she's a racist? o_O

I never would've guessed... Either way, she seems to be somewhat nice, and if she is only as racist as you say she is, then at least it's better then frothing at the mouth being a neo-nazi...

Only video I've found - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gkKWg7FAUI , but there are remarks from here if you let her tag with you.

Plus, wow, people get a hate base from being Christian? Jeez, I hate to think of the amount of hate Lilliana from DA:O might have just because she basically follows an almost exact fantasy version of Catholicism. o_O
Leliana didn't get much flak for it - if it isn't called Christianity/Judism/Islam, then you are fine, haters aren't that smart to hate on things like that. Anyway, the escapist had an anti-theistic (which was mostly anti-Christian) thread two days ago, I think we are going with one thread a week, which is quite admirable to say the least.
