If the character is male, Mike or Micheal, depending on the number of letters/symbols I'm allowed.

If the character is female, it depends on whether the character is meant to represent me or is a character in her own right. I always use Mishi for pokemon games, for instance, but I named my female Shepards Katherine and Miriam.

But if the character already has a canon name and I don't dislike it, I generally go with their default name.

But in titles where I can customize my characters' appearance, I have been known to be immature. I have an Orlesian Warden-Commander named Cyrano (with all the nose sliders up to maximum size), and I had a Runes of Magic character named Torpedotits (guess why).

Sam Sierra
often with a T. middle initial if the game lets me. It's a mix between the coolest character name in Star Wars (Samuel Tomas Gillespee) with Sierra as last name, after the original publisher of Half-Life. Naming someone Valve would sound dumb. And it wouldn't alliterate.

Fantasy RPGs like Oblivion and Diablo are an exception. I try to come up with ridiculous names full of th's, r's and apostrophes.

1. Something goofy and violent like "Head-rip Gutsploder" or "Face Smack Blood Eater"

2. Something incredibly stupid like "Unicorn Crayons" or "Albert Cornsexer"

3. A mess like "Graghabrafud" or "Bokefuv"

4. Steve.

Whenever I make an Orc or Half-Orc character in a fantasy game, I always name him Krobesh.

Most often I use the name Kade but recently i've started using the name Durahan. Both of these names work for males and females so thats pretty convienient.

Raz for my first/main character.
Rasse for any other male characters.
Bleh for any female characters (due to not being able to think of any good female names).

Yes, I'm a mastermind when it comes to naming characters, thank you for asking.

Jack; everyone knows it gives you a +1 bonus to luck whenever you use it. Other times I'll use James, for the +1 sexy.

Male characters - Gearran, Ryker

Female characters - Renata, Cadia

Of course, if these are taken by the time I get to playing the game, all bets are off...Though I do try to at least keep it somewhat realistic (or fitting to the setting). I tend to avoid l33tspeek names or smartass nonsense (I'm looking at all of you "KillMaster"s and "Buttmonkey142"s out there...).
