Funnily enough, my thoughts will often stray into an inner monologue bent on making a decisive stance on something related to something I saw that day. Today it was the adoption donations box where I work. It got me thinking about the many Christmas charities such as the Salvation Army we'll soon see popping up in malls, and also about the recent stories in my local paper of scam charities (don't ever donate to something called 'Children Are The Light of Our Lives' unless you like child molestation).

What is your stance on local charities? Do you believe there is a way to determine if it is a worthy cause? What is the one you would trust the most? Do you believe people donate to make a difference, even if it an incredibly small one, or just so they can make themselves feel better?

Don't be afraid to say you don't donate to charities for whatever reason. No one should think the less of you.

When my school has a collection, I give what I have in my pocket. If everyone give a few bucks you can really get a good sum of cash

A local charity in my town when to bail a guy out of jail after killed 2 people in a DUI wreck. He was a board member of the local school district. Needless to say, some charities are good, others are utterly stupid.

No I didn't donate to this, I mainly donate blood.

I usually find it more worthwhile to donate my time (to actually volunteer) and help make the world better with my own two hands.

I'm similar, I don't like the idea of donating money so instead I donate plasma and platelets every two weeks. At least then you know your product is going to be put to very good use.

I donate blood when I can and volunteer at a local not-for-profit. I'll throw a few bucks to whatever charity happens to be bugging me while my wallet isn't empty.

I always assume that 3/4 of whatever I donate will go to members of the charity (administration), and 1/4 or less will get to the actual cause, so I don't donate. I guess you could call me a bit cynical.

I hardly ever give to charity unless its the local Wildlife fund that I'm a part of.

I don't give to major charities because the money usually goes 60% to the CEO's pockets, 30% to advertising, and 10 % to actual charity.

I'm doing Movember, but it's more for the excuse to grow a moustache than anything else...

Maybe there is a little part of me that wants to help people.

I only donate to either World Vision or Salvation Army. I just don't really trust charities. When Katrina happened back in 2005, I remember hearing multiple news stories about leaders of charities taking thousands, if not millions for themselves.
