And to think Mario Kart 64 wasn't even close to one of the worst ones for rubber band AI. I actually didn't find it that noticeable in that one (at least not until 150cc). Double Dash is ten times worse easily to the point where I found it nearly unplayable on anything higher than 50cc, and Mario Kart Wii managed to make the rubber band AI even worse than Double Dash to the point where it felt like luck if I won or lost even on 50cc.Limecake said:Rubber band AI, specifically Mario Kart (N64 version is the one I'm thinking) it's not that they make it more difficult it's the fact that no matter how well I do, no matter how perfect my lap is they will always always catch up.
It's cheap and a lame way to keep the races competitive, I may as well reverse through the tracks.
Isn't that En Passant?Sovereignty said:Once you beef up the difficulty you'll see the computer move pawns like they're queens to stop your strategy. I've also seen the computer move a pawn diagonally behind a pawn I had right beside it... And somehow capture it.
Back in the PSX/N64 days, there was one thing worse that could happen: Memory Card Corruption or whatever it is that makes them need to be reformatted. This was mainly a PSX problem of course but it was still the reason I couldn't beat FF7 until I got the PC version. I still don't know how I managed to get to the end of FF9 either.him over there said:The absolute worst thing any game can do is turn off or crash on you in the middle of saving for absolutely no reason.
It's been a long time since I played it, but I seem to recall it does allow the AI to castle ANY time the King and Rook are in the right relative positions. IIRC it also will allow the queen to castle. I'm not sure about pawns getting weird moves, but there you go.Corinthius said:The thing with the pawns moving diagonally behind another pawn is actually a rule called "En Passant" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_passant), and is completely legit. Seriously that is CHEATING in every sense of the word.

All other cheating is just lol-worthy when next to the madness that is Windows Chess.
I'd also like to add, when you go to a gym expecting their pokemon to be the specific type you've fought all the way through, then boom, they have some stupid pokemon that is immune or not very effected. Explain to me why clair has a fucking Kingdra so my stupid Ice pokemon are fucking useless. Also I would like to add that it is extremely annoying in the elite four as well. Seriously, why do they have pokemon using moves that are the opposite of their type, that throws strategy out the fucking window.Volan said:I swear the AI in Pokemon likes to cheat a lot to amp up the difficulty, Take the Elite Four, for example: if both you and your opponent's Pokemon get paralyzed or confused, they'll almost never have any issues, while you'll be too paralyzed to attack or will end up hurting yourself 90% of the time. Likewise, if they use any move that makes them better at avoiding your attacks or makes your accuracy worse, you'll almost never be able to score a hit.
The rule only works in specific circumstances. I'm not 100% sure but I think the pawn you take MUST have done the double step forward past your pawn. It doesn't work if they took 2 steps on different turns and I think your pawn had to be there as it passed; you can't arrive after. Maybe that's why it didn't work for you. Check if it works in a 2-player game.Sovereignty said:Thanks for informing me! Still plenty of other debauchery that goes on however. I tend to not dwell on it either way. The computer is a damn dirty cheat!
Not to mention the few times they do use one hit KOs, like sheer cold they seem to be about 50% accuracy.Volan said:I swear the AI in Pokemon likes to cheat a lot to amp up the difficulty, Take the Elite Four, for example: if both you and your opponent's Pokemon get paralyzed or confused, they'll almost never have any issues, while you'll be too paralyzed to attack or will end up hurting yourself 90% of the time. Kingdra is a dragon/water pokemon. Which is why Claire has it.mrhappy1489 said:I'd also like to add, when you go to a gym expecting their pokemon to be the specific type you've fought all the way through, then boom, they have some stupid pokemon that is immune or not very effected. God damn confusion. It never works nearly as well if you try to do it. Also spamming sand attack is really annoying, but works just as well if you try it.Volan said:I swear the AI in Pokemon likes to cheat a lot to amp up the difficulty, Take the Elite Four, for example: if both you and your opponent's Pokemon get paralyzed or confused, they'll almost never have any issues, while you'll be too paralyzed to attack or will end up hurting yourself 90% of the time. Damn you're getting quoted like no tomorrow...and still no one mentions poison! It seems like every poison attack your enemy uses has an 80% chance to poison you at all times, especially in the beginning of the game with god damned poison stingVolan said:I swear the AI in Pokemon likes to cheat a lot to amp up the difficulty, Take the Elite Four, for example: if both you and your opponent's Pokemon get paralyzed or confused, they'll almost never have any issues, while you'll be too paralyzed to attack or will end up hurting yourself 90% of the time. I remember once that after I finally had it in checkmate it insisted there was a wrong move. I spoke both to my father and grandfather who are both avid chess players and all three of us couldn't figure out that argument.Sovereignty said:Eh have none of you played the computer version of Chess that is included with windows?

If you get a pawn to the other side of the board (the other player's back row), then you can promote it to a more effective piece - typically a queen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_(chess) .Starke said:It's been a long time since I played it, but I seem to recall it does allow the AI to castle ANY time the King and Rook are in the right relative positions.
