America seems to have the best loons. Who is that and whats it from? I assume it's a radio host but is he like a 1am viewed by 300 people kind of deal or someone more prominent?
His name is "Ghost" from "True Capitalist Radio". There're tons of videos like this on youtube.

I don't know any bronys personally, or have any pony drama in my life. I have been around real ponies and horses before though; they smell weird, and when I was giving this one horse treats I thought it was going to eat my whole hand. Nevertheless, the horses were pretty cool.

I don't know much about it at all to be honest. The extent of my knowledge on MLP are the silly, yet harmless (unless they are GIFs!) avatars people often have of them, which are to be found in almost every corner of the internet now.

That sounds just sad. It's a very well made animation series, but doesn't really do anything for my taste.

Anywho, it's just a trend with the whole self-acknowledging hook of young men enjoying a show, made for kids, full of cute ponies. It will die out for the most part eventually.

Fortunately this site is pretty much the only place I happen to encounter any pony-fandom.

It's funny, because I have seen, rode, and feed horses before but I had never seen an actual pony in real life.I've never even seen them at those pet zoos or what not. So to be into a show based on ponies, yet never coming across one.. it's just funny to me. Don't know why *shrug*.
One of the few times in my life that I had ever hung out with my real dad he had a male pony which was completely wild, and would bite and kick. It was interesting to seen the interaction between him and the pony as he was trying to tame it. I stayed a safe distance from it most of the time as even a pony has really strong legs so can be dangerous, but I did pet it once while it was eating.

I know a brony, he is a massive douche. But that is just his personality and not a reflection of the shows fanbase. Like what you want to, I don't care.

I don't see how MLP specifically is to blame for your friends. People obsess over a plethora of things, do you have any idea how many Star Trek fanfictions are out there?
Just because it's a cartoon and the original concept was aimed at a different age group doesn't make it worse. Original Star Wars was probably not made for little kids either but I loved it since the age of four.

I'd say the problem is with your friends being morons, not the show being "childish".

What this guy said.

What your friends do in their personal lives shouldn't really concern you - what does it matter if they keep a shelf full of MLP merchandise? How is that harming you? - but the fact that they're constantly excluding you from the conversation (implied when you said they talk about ponies) or try and force their fandom on you is an entirely different story.

We're not all bad, I swear. :c

Personally, I find it all a bit strange, but then again, I have collected warhammer40K* for over ten years now, so I don't think I am the one who should point fingers.
At least I can play with my toys? I don't know. If you are a guy/gal that really likes the pony show, then who am I to judge? Have fun with your ponies, at least they look cute.
There's an awful lot of pony avatars on the internet, tho. Why is that?

(*=Spellcheck thinks warhammer is not a word, but warhammer40K is. How weird.)

I don't think anyone has had MLP: FiM ruin their lives before...

Personally, while not a fan of the show, the fan love their show (although the term brony is very silly) and I say let them love it, it isn't hurting anyone and being enthusiastic about something is a good thing. Like the escapist, If you don't like ponies and see a pony thread, ignore it, problem solved.

Bronys are VERY vocal however, I will say that. I love adventure time but I don't slap adventure time jokes everywhere.
I admit I have never watched any MLP, but I adore Adventure Time, I have a couple of t-shirts and do slip in the odd "mathematical" when needed =p

Ah yes, the age-old problem of what to do when your friends become obsessed with something you aren't really into. I've had this problem before (I'd go so far as to say that right now a sizeable portion of my mates have become utterly obsessed with League Of Legends, to the point where entry to their conversations has become protected by a barrier of buzzwords, concepts and past experiences that might as well be Zwahili to me), and I'd say either wait it out (no-one is capable of being that utterly obsessed over one thing for too long), try and join in as best you can or bring up a new interest. Organise for y'all to go out and do your favourite thing, share with them your favourite band, or movie, or book, propose entirely new activities you can all dive into together.

OT: I used to be a big time Brony. Like, loving the show so much that I seeked the fanart, stories, and feedback about MLP along with other things (had 1 toy of Pinkie Pie, but gave it to my niece after some time). Everything was great when I was a Brony.. but sadly, the community got pretty bad (i'm assuming because it grew so large, a mix of irrational fans became active). Like for example, anyone to dislike the show or question it got bashed by many fans of MLP. I didn't like that, because it's shunning opinions that differ then theirs based on a show.
I remember your brony phase. Man that was fun (for me at least)

Your experience reminds me of my own Harry Potter experience. I was a huge member of the fandom about six/seven years ago (wow that makes me feel old) but then the community got really nasty. I was a fanfiction writer (back in the day when there were a trifling 50,000 fics instead of 500,000) and it started out really well, but then it just got mean.

Happy ending though (and the reason why I'm bringing this up) the community is now much nicer. I recently went back in to writing HP fanfic and the whole thing is different. It seems very much like the people involved grew up (including myself) and suddenly it's like it was in the old days, which is nice because it reminds me of a better time.

So I guess what I'm saying is, stay a fan, and maybe at somepoint you'll find the community has come back round to be as good as you remember.

As for actual broniism. I was never a brony, but I am a fan, and I continue to be a fan, and I will probably remain a fan. But I just personally don't get the fanatic love. I don't know anyone in real life who is that devoted, and nowadays I don't even really see that many online who are that into it.

Uh, I hate to quell some of your hope but Me, my Brother, my best friend, and at least 5 other people I talk to regularly all played LoL, a LOT, everyday, for about two years now. To be honest I am getting over it, but that's just because I'm starting to like HoN/DotA2 more.

But yeah, basically, be prepared for a looong wait my friend.

I know someone like that as well.

It was really funny to watch him react when I started playing the show on my computer. I scarred him for life.

To cloppers scare me.
Otherwise I keep similar attitudes about the show to everything in life. Like it if you want to, share it if you want to, but if it's not relevant or the person you're talking to clearly doesn't give a single shit, then stop.

Well, I remember you! .. Actually I just remember you for making good points from time to time, like this for example and with that I must say- well said man.

I mostly agree with you which is why I am still a dedicated fan of the MLP series. Yet, I am slowly starting to lose interest because unlike the Harry Potter group, the MLP fanbase is still getting kind of hard to accept with how they've been treating people including their own.

Yea I can judge people individually but since I don't like judging people for I am not perfect along with to many people causing a stir- I find it best to just not be part of it period. As for people not understanding why the franchise is worth the hype.. I guess it's best to say that Lauren Faust is responsible. All her work, creations, and shows based off her scripts tend to be major successes. And since MLP is a different, yet crafty nether the less show.. the majority of people love it along with other reasons. I still love it, but the Bronies.. they make it hard for me to enjoy it as much sadly.

But again not all of them are like that. I've gotten some great friends who're big fans of the show. Hopefully they'll stick around, without them then I think it'd be harder to appreciate MLP as a whole.
Oh hai Caramel, we haven't spoken in god knows how long.
To be honest, I think you're missing out a lot by looking at the type of brony who hates on cloppers, yet doesn't want to get hated. They're the type of brony that really just makes all the bronies like me, who don't clop but are fine with cloppers. I reckon that, with you're relative popularity here on the Escapist, that if you considered yourself a brony again and preached the true way to be a brony, which is to tolerate anyone no matter if you don't like what they do, you would probably be able to make a difference to a few close minded individuals here. Go on the MLP group and defend cloppers if they are being hated on, don't just dismiss all bronies.
Also, if you really want to see true tolerance, go check out the New Lunar Republic group. Those guys are seriously some of the kindest, most tolerant people I've met.
