Chell in Episode 3...how the hell would that work?

impossible, as portal is set a long time after the events of half-life, it was confirmed by valve, but don't have any links, sorry

Half Life 2 is set in 2020, the 7 hour war occurring in 2010 and Half Life 1 happening in 2000. Portal 1 occurs some time between 1998~2020 (Glados mentions that the world has already ended as we know it) . Portal 2 (after the long sleep) is estimated to be around 2200~2300+ (depends on how many 9s the deep-sleep wake up computer actually says). Another theory is that it is 9999 days, but then it repeats, suggesting Portal 2 is not far outside of Half Life 2's time line, putting it more or less around 2027/2028. This would offer a direct tie in to Half Life 3/Episode 3.

Edit: Minor curiosity, a life ring from the infamous Borealis can be discovered in Portal 2 also.

Their has been a lot of belief that Chell will be in Episode 3 and I am personally for it. I would love to have both the gravity gun and portal gun in use in the same game. However how the hell will we be able to deal with 2 silent protagonists in a game. Either Chell is going to have to speak or it is going to get really awkward if Alyx gets the silent treatment from two people.

Chell didn't have a portal gun when she left Aperture. It got misplaced during the battle with Wheatley (apparently you can watch it get sucked through the portal and into outer space if you do something to get a third person view of the action). So, no ASHPD for Mr. Freeman, at least not from Chell.
