He's everyone's favorite Wookie! He's Han Solos bestest buddy and wears a bandolier. But do you feel you know him? Do you feel you understand his personality and motivations, or is he just the hairy dude who gargles in everyones faces? And if you feel he is a bland character, do you blame the actor Peter Mayhew, or the writers?

I actually really like him just because of his past and how he and Han became the best buddies we saw in the movie. He is meant to be a side kick character though, so he isn't supposed to have a big back story or role. He is meant to be the comic relief and a wild card character. Sorta like c3p0 was supposed to be. Ya know, except cheiwie doesn't suck.

Note:I always hated C3P0, even as a kid i thought he was dumb. R2D2 i thought was awesome though. Bee boop beep woooop, ah classic.

Hate. Hate. Hate.

Ever since I saw what a dick Mayhew is. Or am I thinking of some other actor who played someone else?

I like him in small quantities. He can be good comic relief, he saves everyone on a couple of occasions, and he does have a personality, although much in the same way a dog has a personality.

Still, he's okay, his whine/grunt is incredibly irritating, but thankfully, it's not to omnipresent.

However, watch The Star Wars Holiday Special to see just how earth-shakingly annoying it can be when there's more than one.
I believe that return of the Jedi was supposed to be on Kashyyk originally, not Endor. I also think the holiday episode explains why they changed locations.

Wookies are cool in general-- Chewie is the classic Wookie, ergo Chewie is cool.

But, honestly, I hardly remember any of the scenes he was part of in the movies. He's like this mysterious, furry presence in the background, memorable only because he was a fucking Wookie.

I like him. I like how even though he cant speak English, you can still sense some emotion coming from him. Seeing him roar when Han gets frozen made me fell sorry for him.

Also in the expanded stories, I wont spoil it but he did something that made me like and respect him more.

Chewbacca is just awesome, as he seems to be a jack-of-all-trades, as Han could tell him to do almost anything and he'd be able to do it. Of course I've never felt he was in doses that I couldn't handle, but if he had more parts, I could see him getting annoying.

Fine i guess. Though i'm one of the Few Heartless Bastards who enjoyed his Death in the Expanded Universe Books.
Don't worry though, at least he died Gloriously by Having the Equivalent of a PLANET dropping on his head

Before anyone flames me by calling me a Chewie hater, keep in mind, his death Served as a HUGE plot mover for the Solos.
Anakin, Jacen, and Jaina were all affected by the death of "Their Protector"
If you're a familiar to the Lore as i am, you know what i mean.

I love Chewbacca and
was really upset when they dropped a planet on him! D:

But Peter Mayhew himself was kind of a douche when I met him. It was sad. D:

Never liked him much myself.
He's just really annoying, and the little fact of not being able to understand him means you can't really characterise him as effectively.

There is an online rumor that throughout the movies, chewbacca is a spy sent to keep an eye on luke so he will find yoda and start his training to become a jedi. That's why it is never brought up that chewbacca was in the battle on his home planet (episode 3) and worked closely with yoda (also episode 3) and the only reason he is working with Han solo is to stay on tattowine ( i know I misspelled that) close to luke just in case the empire finds him

He sacrificed his life to save Han's son. It took a falling moon to kill him.

Edit: Ah, damn I've been ninja'd.

What do you mean? I understood him perfectly. Maybe try subtitles?

On topic: I love Chewbacca. He is my god.

Wookies are supposed to be incredible warriors. And yet, Chewies not brutal or savage in anyway.
Great warrior yes, but I think they sort of pride themselves in not being as savage as they look. They actually have a title of shame for a wookie who uses his claws in combat, a "mad claw".

If were talking about his personality I find him really loyal.
He is always by Hans side and when it comes to his death he took a fucking moon to the face to save Hans son Anakin Solo. If that's not loyalty life debt or not, I don't know what is.
The only thing I didn't like about' him in the movies was the fact that they didn't translate what he said like every other "alien" so he had sort of a Kenny from south park feel where you could only guess at what he said from what the rebuttal was from the people around him.

Yeah, they stopped teaching Wookie at my school just before Star Wars came out. I blame government education.
