You never heard about stuff like this when I was growing up.
I remember hearing about it fairly often as a kid back in the 80's and early 90's.

They had to destroy a perfectly good retro game boy?! ...Unless it was actually broken, in which case, they had to destroy a perfectly retro game boy?!

>Implying a mere bomb could destroy something made of Gameboydium.

I'm just sorry they ran out of that precious element by the time the DS came out.

I would make a comment here but the Pun in the title was so bad that I think I died.

I'm actually surprised he had a gameboy. I wonder if the economic status of the neighborhood had anything to do with that. Do gameboy still circulate around low income neighborhoods or was it just a fluke. Gameboys are an antiquity now, I wonder how he got it.

A sad day for the old school crowd.

I'm sure he-who-must-not-be-named would love to point to this as further proof that video games cause violence. He did just pop back up recently. But enough of that.

I bet my old brick Gameboy is still around here somewhere. Guarantee you it will still work. And it could still play for a week without replacing its batteries. Maybe longer.

Damn it, bomb squad! I promised a friend I would give her my Game Boy, but I lost it! Now you go ahead and blow up a completely safe one just because there's no way you can tell it isn't an actual explosive device! Next time please send it to The Random One, Esq, Somewhere in Brazil (it will eventually make it to my hands).

ROFL. I wish I could expand on that, but that would be difficult. N-Gage was certainly a step back for mobile phone entertainment, and a the big lesson that one should not to try to take a piece of Nintendo's portable pie without bringing some big guns to the table.

So kids, please don't screw around with your uncle's old GB. He didn't spend all his birthday money just to see you turn it into bombing propaganda - or something like that.

The bomb squad DESTROYED IT? It was like, a little piece of history.

You know what the big issue is here, though? A GameBoy would be incredibly inefficient as an explosive device. It's sheer plastic strength would've held the boom to itself. I mean, if bombs can't destroy it from the outside, it sure as hell can't from the inside (though it certainly wouldn't work anymore after that).

My first thought was, god damn it only my generation is allowed to play old game boys now.
Second thought, well it is the bomb

Sigh, one less classic game system in the world. If kids keep doing this there won't be any more gameboys in the world.

I was just in a topic about when its ok to hit children....
Also, I dont know if these children are stupid because they are, or stupid because they dont appreciate the past? (Was it to be "funny" or did they not know the begining of one of the best things by Nintendo?)

I'm imagining the bomb squad edging onto the bus, having a dramatic yet casual conversation like in The Hurt Locker.

"Back on a school bus. It's been what, a year for you? How many times did you fail grade 10?"
"Very funny asshole."
"Hey, just 'cause you graduated high school when you were 25..."
"Cut the shit, we gotta focus."
"Woah, what have we here?"
"I ain't never seen anything like it..."
"Dear god, what are we dealing with?"
Zoom in on the device and

Maybe because there's no real punishment for their actions? *old man voice* A child can be stupid, but, gosh darnit, 20 years ago they would of been disciplined, that meant something. */old man voice* (and they walked uphill, in the snow.. with no shoes... playing Tetris on their Gameboy..... it was uphill both ways.)

Well, in this case, you want to make your child not be that stupid to even do that in the first place. Disciplining the child after this doesnt change that it happened.

If he was disciplined before this, he would of thought of the consequences before he did it. I'm just sayin, dad can be a very scary man when he get's the belt out... or mom and the wooden spoon for that matter.. *shudders*

ie: Fear is an excellent motivator to not do anything wrong. Why do you not drink and drive after your 21? The jail time, the community service, and everything else that comes with it. Fear is in our culture in some shape or form to "inspire" discipline.

EDIT: your right it doesn't do anything, but, it's just an obvious problem with the system, children can darn near get away with murder.

Could just make your children not stupid. Ever notice how often the smart kids are the goody two-shoes? I never did bad stuff because Im not stupid. Plus your described method could just make them bitter and hatefull, mostly of their parents, and that just promotes rebellion. Im not saying never punish your child, but it may be more affective to make your child smart enough to make good decisions, and make them love you enough that upsetting you is punishment enough for them. I know for me, tough love just makes me hateful of them.

First off, calm down, I was joking in the first post, but, being disciplined doesn't mean the child will be rebellious because you punished them for their "poor" decisions. You don't beat your child for everything, good lord no. You reinforce that some decisions that are bad, which nobody's that retarded to not know whats wrong or right, it can be pretty ridiculously obvious sometimes, are to be punished. Pain and fear reinforce it. And how do you make a child love you? Bribe them with candy? Seriously, the person I probably love and care about most is my father, and he was the disciplinarian in my family, but, he did all those great and wonderful things people would probably say makes a great father, but, God damn it, I was terrified of him if I did something wrong, and I usually knew in advanced if I did it... I just thought I could get away with it.

You can "love" something but not respect it, that isn't love if you ask me, that's just liking something when it's convenient for you. Love to me goes hand in hand with respect, one must go with the other, it's a mutual bond between two parties. I'm just going to stop right there, this can get really philosophical.
And just because I like this video so much:

PS. My parents tried the method you described with my youngest sister, she is the most [Anger]self righteous spoiled brat who's never held a job, and criticizes others on their mistakes when she has never been out in the world herself.[/Anger] And for some reason, she doesn't respect and even at times "hates" our parents.

I got news for people, that whole social experiment of not spanking is a colossal failure.
