BEIJING (AP) — A man in eastern China has contracted what might be the world’s first human case of the H10N3 strain of bird flu, but the risk of large-scale spread is low, the government said Tuesday.

The 41-year-old man in Jiangsu province, northwest of Shanghai, was hospitalized April 28 and is in stable condition, the National Health Commission said on its website.

No human case of H10N3 has been reported elsewhere, the commission said.
But unlike with coronaviruses, there are global influenza surveillance systems that watch for human cases of bird flu, since a strain named H5N1 cropped up in the late 1990s in Hong Kong’s crowded live-poultry markets.
Between 2013 and 2017, another bird flu named H7N9 infected more than 1,500 people in China through close contact with infected chickens.
So yeh also yes the title was a bit silly but that's where I felt like going with the thread title. Lets see what happens with this first human infection shall we?

It is very very far from the first kind of bird flu in Humans, that happens all the time. It is just the first of this specific kind of bird flu.

So far there is no reason to assume that this one is particularly dangerous or infectious.

No, that one is pretty much gone. Most antibiotics work, there is other treatment and ratfleas are not particularly relevant anymore. The Black Death never really vanished btw., it just became less important.

Yeah, I know, cases still pop up here and there in developing countries and the US, tho fatalities are relatively rare in the latter.

What about antibiotic resistant bacteria? That could be a new plague. Antibiotic resistance is probably the biggest threat in the first world.

Theoretically possible, but doesn't seem to be much the case with the bubonic plague yet. Even it it was, with modern lifestyle the vectors of transmission are not really there anymore. And you can treat the symptoms better.

Most are less competitive. They thrive is hospitals because it's vulnerable people and lots of use of antibiotics in the wild vs normal human bacterial colonies they struggle to compete because the genes for antibiotic resistance tends to take resources away from other functions. Like say they produce and anti-biotic resistant slime coat but it reduces their reproduction rate or ability to process certain things or something else.

So, on the serious side... it sounds like they haven't covered this up. Which was the biggest problem with the 'rona. We know that when China locks down, it goes stupendously overboard. So... touch wood.... it's fine.

Bah. Nurgle and the other pathetic spawn of chaos mean nothing. They're just a bad figment of Azathoth's imagination, probably just a side effect of some undigested bit of planet (we all know the rocky ones have spicy-hot centers). I mean, how important can those guys be? They're so insecure they won't even let Malal play in their sandbox.
