Hell NSA combs through everything that comes into the US and they randomly snoop in on phone conversations domestic and international. Look up the Nova special called Spy Factory and feel very paranoid every time you talk on a phone or send an email.

To be honest a figure of 1295 computers infiltrated is pretty pathetic compared to any slightly dangerous piece of virus or malware. Seems like China's only snooping on governments that have information they might want, which is the entire point of organizations like the CIA - to obtain classified information. This is not something any of us have to worry about, unless you work at some secret rebel Tibetan database.

lol, what a bunch of amateurs! The first rule of being a spy is: you do not exist, you don't even know you exist.

That pretty much hits the nail on the coffin of China's spy-network there

Youre nieve if you dont think every government does it. There will be a lab somewhere in MI5/CIA/MOSAD/etc sniffing after other nations secrets. Its part of the game.

If you dont think the government should know about it, dont connect it to the net.

Ugh... Chinese government, what on earth are you doing now?
Erm, being the Chinese government? Its what they do, being sneaky and repressive.

The only thing that surprises me is there level of competence that they managed to keep this quiet for so long.

Yup, and the USA government did it under the 'Patriot' act (although they got found out pretty quickly [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke9bzb4n_Aw])

I've seen him on TV once (Michael Palin (no relation) in India, I think it was) and he's a very odd man. Pleasant, just abit loony.

I listened to this radio 4 program not too long ago about journalists remanising about media coverage of his escape from Tibet, and apparently he was pretty modern and media savvy even then. His entourage all used to wear suits and called him 'D.L.' to the surprise of the English journos.
