Chivalry is still alive... Somewhat... Maybe...

I'm sure others have at least thought about this topic, but even so - mind you that I myself feel sexist bringing it up - I feel the need to get the input of others on it, as it relates to my current situation. So, here it is in ALL it's glory...

Recently I was playing an old (possibly archaic) Java version of quake arena on my PC with my GF. (Girl-Friend, for those young enough to be in the position i was once where GF had no significant meaning) and I was struck by the realization that chivalry isn't dead.

Now I know most people will have a problem with this idea, with the very concept, but hear me out. We were playing and she was loosing. I knew the map/power-ups/shield-respawns by heart and that made me think I had an unfair advantage over her (who, at the time, had only been introduced to it). I didn't stop trying to defeat her on that basis, but I honestly felt myself forgoing those power-ups that she wouldn't get if I followed my usual sequence and got them/MDK'ed her before she had a chance to find them. I mean, I KNEW where they would spawn and how long it took to respawn, and I just couldn't bring myself to use it to my advantage. This was my chivalrous moment: I laid down my coat, without her even knowing. To be honest, it made the whole thing more fun for both of us!

You see, she was still able (well, more than able) to confront me on an even toe-VS-toe basis. The challenge was FUN!! But I forwent the advantages that come from experience of play to enhance her over-all experience of fun.

And this is CHIVALRY. To lay down ones coat (experience) over a puddle (lack-there-of) so those you care about can get the most of something you both enjoy. I might be (okay, I AM) reaching here, but if that's not chivalry, then what is?

PLEASE, let me know if you think I'm wrong. I look forward to the feedback! :)
