Most of us are 15-20 year-old guys, this obsession with "chivalry" is not fucking natural. Either be polite to everyone, or don't actively be a dick to everyone.

I'm sure it makes you all feel better when you inevitably turn around and cry about women all hating nice guys (and I have no doubt the cross over between the chivalry and "they hate nice guys!" crowd is huge), but it's just getting weird now.

I long for the day when we can all act our age, and rate celebrities based on their body parts.

I disagree with your uninformed strawmanning of all nice/Chivalrous guys. Personally Chivalry comes more naturally to me than being a sex obsessed stereotype, so hope away for your shallow future based upon physical appearance.

How can I be uninformed? There are nice people, there are polite people, then there are people that call themselves chivalrous and people who complain all women hate nice guys - the latter two of which people do constantly on this forum, and from what I've seen there's a fairly large cross over between the two groups.

And like I've highlighted, be polite to everyone, or don't try to be a dick to everyone. Chivalry doesn't come into it, especially the ridiculous bloody examples listed in the OP.

How is showing courtesy to a woman archaic? Because its old? does that mean living in a house is archaic? or eating at a table? (I refuse to use your malaproper of "Prehistoric" as History was being recorded at the time.) And you are uninformed on the definition of Chivalry, it does not mean "Show false courtesy to women and treat them like they are prizes to be won." it means to act in a courtly manner to all people. Chivalry was devised to keep Knights from being the complete monsters they were in war while at home; it taught humility, discipline, honor and reason. It was a strict set of rules that Knights were to follow at all times. But of course there are certain Knights who did not follow theese rules and they were dishonerable bastards who dont deserve a mention here, much like anyone who complains about a woman not liking them despite their calm, supportive, pleasant attitude to them; they are not true "nice guy" they put on a facade of "nice guy" in an attempt to woo the lady, a true "nice guy" is nice to EVERYONE regardless of theyre status as a potential partner or not. And as to your opinion of some people "Acting like They're 65." I must say that these values were instilled in us by our parents and so maybe its just that we were raised in a different environment than you that instilled in us these qualities you desperatly wish would go the way of the dodo.

Im just not reading between the lines or anything that would make it merely an interperetation of your post Im reading what you wrote, its your duty to make sure what you wrote is what you meant. In addition I direct your attention (however selective it may be.) to the important part of that definition "Courteous behavior." as in to everyone the fact that you show it to a women is only percieved as especially focused upon is because nobody until then showed women any form of respect wich unfortunately most men today still dont. I am English and I'm fully aware of the current knighthoods which are handed out. Got one in the family too. But my point is Chivalry was created so nobles didn't have to stab each other up at the end of a fight. They'd merely capture them and ransom them. That was the 'Chivalrous' thing to do. Then some twat decided to turn 'how not to kill so-and-so's lad' into bloody dating tips. Which has continued on into an age where they're really not relevant any more. For example I highly doubt I'm going to find myself in the royal court surrounded by pretty young women with rich and powerful farther.

If some bimbo with entitlement issues wants me to be chivalrous I'll bloody kidnap her and sell her back to her own family. Besides do we really need to make it seem like being nice is a unique and special thing to do. Surly it should come naturally! As in the fucking default option, I'm sick of what should be common fucking sense being given a fancy title and made to look impressive.

*smiles broadly and applauds* Nice. It's pleasant to see someone point out that just because a values system is older, that doesn't mean it's out of date or no longer valid. The chivalric code has roots in a very well thought system and served a good purpose then, and still does today, no matter how much our society has evolved. As someone who has met WAY too many "nice" guys putting on "chivalrous" airs in an attempt to impress, I agree pretty much with everything you presented.

I met a young Brit fellow who treated me in a genuinely chivalrous manner, which was frankly enthralling BECAUSE his display was genuine. *gushes* It was nice to have a man treat me so respectfully and kindly, but seeing that he was the same with others, female or male, that he was true of nature and purpose, made him an exceptional person in my eyes and my heart. His being "old fashioned" might have made him an anachronism to some of his friends, but it didn't seem to concern him and it certainly didn't upset me.

I think that the idea of chivalry is noble in text, but many people carry it out in a rather selfish way (i.e. to get laid).
