The idea of being able to choose your own name has always intrigued me, but I've never personally known anyone who had been allowed to so. A few people mentioned that they had chosen their own first names in the other "Do you like your first name?" thread, and I'm plauged with questions as I've always thought of doing this with my eventual child/ren.

For those who got to choose their own first name: How old were you when you got to pick? How did you decide? Did your parents call you by another name before you chose your own? Retrospectively, do you believe that you were intelligent enough at the time to choose your own name? (No disrespect, just curious.)Do you regret your choice at all?

For those who had their name chosen for them: Would you rather have picked your own? If so, what would you change your name to?

Eh, I'm fine with my first name. "Phil" isn't a bad name.

Then again, "Aegix" sounds infinitely cooler.....But then AGAIN...It probably would sound less cool if I heard it on a daily basis.

My name was chosen for me. Personally, I like it. "Gage" isn't a common name, especially as a first name, so having a unique trait is pretty cool.

I kinda sorta chose my own name, even though my parents named me after my dad, even though I'm not the son who was born first. I go by Freddie, but it's not my first or my (nonexistent) middle name.

If I did change it, I'd go with Riddick, because he's a badass. Maybe I'll make it my middle name...

Mom is a big stephen king fan, but she read Pet Sematary right after naming me. Much to her displeasure.

Haven't read any of his stuff; wouldn't know.

Mom's reading of Pet Sematary does make a good story though.

I think Ailas or Artemis would be fun names to have. Then again my last name starts with an S as well, so I'd have to change that as well, lest I run into the issue of the two running together every time I introduce myself.
