Fun fact. The original host of Top Gear was actually Angela Rippon.
Fair point, and I knew that. Also Noel fucking Edmonds of all twats used to present it. I know Clarkson, Hammond and May aren't the original trio, but I think the fact that I didn't notice myself as I typed it sort of proves my point.

But yes, I was a bit thick there.

Do you seriously want me to try to explain the appeal of cars, or are you just spamming that one line opinion in the hopes that we'll all capitulate and cast off the oppressive yoke that is pop culture news articles?
Well, let's be fair here. Perhaps this RaikuFA person's only experience with Top Gear was his or her coworkers watching American Top Gear in the break room.

And I think we can all agree that that would turn almost anyone off of Top Gear...

True, true. The American one is just boring.

You just can't replace the the chemistry that'd been working for so long, so abruptly. SUCKERS!

This is really starting to shake my confidence in British television, the BBC in particular. It's almost like they have a minimum requirement for dysfunction and inappropriate behavior before they'll higher someone.

As for Mr. Evans... as a non-British person, I was introduced to him with Top Gear. And everything I'd seen and heard has been absolutely terrible. And it's mind breakingly moronic that the BBC hired someone who claimed that showing his penis during meetings was great fun for all involved. You'd have to be socially retarded to not realize that the 'laughter' Evans received during these events was not due to hilarity, but nervousness.

Why is a show about cars on this site?
It's under the TV and Movies tab, that should be pretty self explanatory.
But it's a show about cars.
About 5 minutes after it's creation, the Escapist branched out into 'nerd culture' in a variety of mediums. This includes TV, movies, tabletop games, and pop science/technology.

You are, of course, free to bang your head against that and insist there's something wrong with non-video game content here. It's your right. But please, do so with an even hand, and spread your displeasure to the rest of the content. As of right now, that would be the active Escapist Deals post, the Ghostbuster thread, and the BFG thread.

I look forward to you playing fair and being flabbergastyed by all of them equally.

I'm just wondering if you realise there is a whole genre of video games called racing... Are they not to on this site too?

When I was younger, with a help of a mechanic friend, I pulled apart my cars engine (gasket issues), and before that 20

I've never seen cars and nerd stuff going together. Plus I don't see the appeal on a show where people drive around.
Well, I'm afraid you lack several things.

The first being perspective, as the ultra high end, bizarrely performance focused car crowd has a lot more in common with modern 'tech geeks' then it does the the more main stream 'Corvettes are cool' auto-fandom.

The second is a fundamental understanding of what Top Gear was (Prior to this season). It was, primarily, a comedy show. Then, in descending order of importance - Spectacle (Big, bombastic things, be it cars or, more often, environments), High Performance Cars, General Car News, and then Celebrity Interviews/Challenges.

A third is... how do I say this nicely... No one cares if this site is perfectly calibrated for your own appeal.

Not very nice, I guess, but I'm not sure how else to respond to such a bizarre complaint.

From what I saw from the break room at my old work it was just nonstop driving stuff. I just never understood the appeal of cars.

So how are tech geeks more in common with today's car people?
Do you realise that there is a whole genre of video games called racing? Are they not welcome either?

20 yrs ago, with a mechanic friend, I pulled apart my cars engine (gasket issue). I got a good understanding of cars but I look at mine today and there are so many wires coming off everything. A mechanic has to check the on board computers to find faults. They generally have to specialise because the brands are so different from each other. I know I couldn't do any of that anymore because that technology is beyond anything I can comprehend. So yeah, to be a mechanic you also need to be a tech head.

The huge budget of Top Gear was the best part of it besides Clarkson, Hammond and May. I haven't seen any episodes of this new Top Gear and seems it doesn't even matter the show will be cancelled soon. I'm so interested on what Clarkson, Hammond and May get going on Grand Tour since it has even bigger budget than the BBC Top Gear.

Allegations we wont talk about aside, I'm curious whether he was forced out, or resigned.

He wasn't well received as a host, and he was very smug in response to the negative feedback. Talked a lot about how it was the 'best season opening episode' to decry people saying they didn't like him (which is silly, because they have to watch that episode to find out whether they liked him), but then the show rapidly lost its viewers.

So yeah, he was a smug jerk about negative feedback in a very public way, and then immediately watched the ratings nosedive.

Yeah I dunno which one it was, I do know it was on BBC America. Dunno if they air the US version or not.

I don't think they can save the show now :/ Sad because with Clarkson, Hammond and May it was hilarious.
