i was playing DA:O for a few hours, and the loading times were steadily increasing, so i timed the last one to go from ortan thaig to the crossroads in orzammar.

5 minutes, 30 seconds. no joke.

i have 2GB of RAM, is it worth upgrading?

now, if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna restart my computer.

There is a slight memory leak in the initial release of DA:O. Did you apply the latest patch?

Despite all the furore over the loading times I never noticed them getting out of hand and I'm not exactly running a supercomputer.

Now, the loading times in ME2, THEY got on my nerves.

yeah, i think i'm version 1.1
I think the newest one is 1.2a. Check for a newer version, just to be on the safe side. As for buying more RAM, it would just delay the inevitable. The memory leak would still eat up the RAM only it would take a bit longer. Rebooting your computer every few hours of gameplay seems like the simplest solution and doesn't have you spendning more money.

What type of RAM do you have and do you use an Intel or AMD chipset motherboard?

Load times start as couple seconds and become a couple minutes after a hour or so.

There is definitely a memory leak, but I don't get the 10 minute waits from the tech forums, prolly because my SSD makes the loads much faster in general.

Need to run 8GB of ram like I do. The gaming computer I use right now is going on 3 years old, and still works great. I am a bit surprised, in the past the hardware would be laughably out of date by now. I for one am glad for the slow down, replacing a computer every two years is fun, but a little annoying.

Check it from there. You may have to open the computer case unless you can remember what your memory modules look like.

With intel chipset, if oyu have an i7 core processor (or equal technology base) it would be definetaly recommended to buy triple channel memory. This also makes it pretty sure that you have DDR3 memory as RAM. SO if you intend to buy more, get a 3x1Gb triple-channel verified DDR3 memory, 1333MHZ or greater. The package contains three memory modules, each 1Gb, that are verified to function together within the triple-channel framework that significantly improves RAM efficiency.

If not i7 core or later, it might be possible for you to have DDR2 memory. The 2Gb you currently have seems to support this, or at least the lack of Triple-channel technology support. In this case, if you plan to upgrade you better do it within the next 6 months, year at a most, because DDR2 is being phased out of the markets as outdated technology and the prices will begin to rise.

The easiest way to find out what type of memory you have is to download a small free tool called cpu-z: here's a link [http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php].

Start it and switch to the Memory tab and it will tell you if you have DDR2 or DDR3, along with other info you might find useful (DRAM Frequency...).

Memory leak. Just install the latest patch and it should be solved. Or you can just restart your computer every 3 hours, that works fine as well.

Weird, for me it was Dragon Ages loading that that takes time while ME2 actually is alot faster for me.....

the memory leak was never fixed so the patches are useless ....
its annoying and they dont seem to be giving any info at all on a fix for it so it stays...

and what about ME2 loading times ? they were 2-10 seconds long at best

What, seriously? Those were nothing compared to Dragon Age in full on memory leak mode - it would go from "blink and you missed it" to "go brew a pot of coffee and it still will not have loaded" over enough time playing.

Oh man... I came in expecting to see pictures of horribly melted RAM after a marathon DA:O session... Disappoint :(

In my experience, this is one of those memory problems like Morrowind's, where just exiting the game and restarting fixes it. I never actually seemed to need to reboot.
