It's that time of year to spend hours and hours balls deep in flour and frosting. Figured it might be fun to share our favorite recipes. Since these recipes make several dozen you can probably cut them down but I've never done that so you're on your own with that. First up is the best recipe I've found for sugar cookies so far:
Ingredients:
1 bar or stick butter, melted
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
5 cups flour
Mix baking soda and sour cream together and then all the other ingredients. This recipe is so thick and sticky that I'd suggest mixing one cup of flour at at time with everything else, I've killed electric mixers on this one before. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness, again have plenty of extra flour on hand, this one is a ***** to roll out and cut. Bake @ 350 for 8-10 minutes. I like these ones really soft so they never turned very brown but if you use the tooth pick method they'll be done enough. I just frost with regular vanilla frosting and food coloring, although these are the first ones I've found that still taste good plain. Next is my favorite cookies of all time,
Molasses Sugar Cookies
3/4 Cup Shortening
1 Cup Sugar
1/4 Cup Dark molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 Cup flour
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
Melt the shortening, allow it to cool. Add sugar, molasses, and egg. Beat well. Add dry ingredients. Mix well and chill thoroughly. Form in to small balls (about ping pong ball sized). Roll into granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet two inches apart. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
Potato Chip Cookies
1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup crushed potato chips
Beat shortening until light. Gradually add white and brown sugars, beating constantly. when light and fluffy, add eggs one at at time while still beating (Jesus, there's more beating in this recipe than a Life Time channel movie). Add vanilla and beat. Stir in flour then fold in the potato chips. Drop by rounded spoon full 2 inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Flatten with floured fork tines. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
So there's a few I'm currently working on, anybody have any they'd like to share?
