Christmas - how early do you start preparing?

Well, it seems like every year the commercial side of Christmas gets pushed earlier and earlier. So I ask you, my fellow escapists, when do you start preparing for Christmas? Preparations include gift shopping or anything else related to it. Or if you celebrate Hanukkah (which is usually around the same time) how often in advance do you start preparing for it? Do you prefer to get all advance prep out of the way before Thanksgiving or earlier or do you wait until the last minute? Do you shop online or in store? Discuss.

We are preparing a month earlier than normal, but that is because my mother will be otherwise weakened by an operation in December. Totally justified.

Usually nowhere before halfway through November. And even then, I still feel it's a bit early.

I'm not fond of how far forward Christmas keeps on getting pushed so I actually really only start doing anything Christmas-y the week before on my own free will. My family however generally starts the day after Thanksgiving for everything.

On an unrelated note, Christmas songs on the radio Halloween Night is the stupidest thing ever conceived.

Well, I just posted this in another thread, but it's even more relevant in this thread.

All Christmassy adverts should be banned until December. It would make the month so much more Christmassy.

Usually my family starts decorating in the first week of December. And our shopping starts as early as Black Friday.

I'm already preparing for the holiday season (before Halloween is even here!), but then, it's more like anti-preparations, to be honest. I'm listening to Anti-Christmas Songs (and even making a CD of them), preparing my Buy Nothing Day Picket Sign, trying to dye a Santa Hat into the wrong colors (green and black, instead of red and white), and working on my best Grinch/Scrooge impersonations.

...Then again, if I said it wasn't partially out of jealousy, I'd be lying. I'll spare you all the sob story, but let's just say that it's all an emotionally-fueled, juvenile attempt to glean some enjoyment out of the beginning of my least favorite season of the year...especially this year...call it the onset of a particularly bad case of Seasonal Affective Disorder, I don't really care. It makes no difference in the end.

It helps that I'm not the only one I know that feels that way.

Don't prepare at all. Since, you know, Jewish.

Besides, I'm perfectly capable of getting stuff for people as often as I can without an excuse.

Did I mention that Chanukkah/Hanukkah/however you feel like spelling it today gets considerably more awesome food? Rapidly approaching a grease singularity, certainly, but excellent stuff all the same. Pain to cook, though. Many words can be used to describe boiling oil to the eye. "Pleasant" is not one of them.

Lucky... I'm stuck with being Methodist by technicality. (wishes Christmas food was half as good) We do get some good rolls on Christmas morning though...

OT: I really hate the Christmas rush right around Halloween. I know consumerism is what all the big stores rely on, but really...

My family prepares around December. We always wait for my sister to come home to help put up the (artificial) tree.

Well I don't buy anybody anything or decorate or even cook so I don't prepare........... I do this with all holidays, heck I don't even celebrate my own birthday...... Its nice to tell your girlfriend that you don't believe in valentines day so don't expect anything not even so much as dining out or a movie. Sounds jerky but all my girlfriends have gone along with it :)

57 Days, 8 hours remaining.
Hurry hurry hurry xD

Honestly it's fun and silly top observe others worrying and rushing about the holiday. It's about the spirit of the season, not about the money (giving/getting).
