Has anybody else come across this? This early, I mean? I was in an exhibition group at a high school marching competition and there was a Christmas tree up in the center of town, and people walking around the event with little speakers playing "Deck the Halls". It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and there is Christmas cheer all around. I appreciate the thought and spirit, but I think it's just too early.

Does anybody else find this a little odd? Any interesting stories regarding this phenomenon?

I guess this is similar. The Walmart in town usually starts bringing out its Christmas merchandise around this time. I still ask why, wouldn't people be more inclined to by stuff from the closest holiday, not the one a month and a half away?

I despise the fact that it's not even a week into November and I'm seeing shit up for Christmas. If I had it my way, there would be nothing until the 15th of December at the earliest. Just seeing stuff up for a holiday that is more than a month away irritates me. Especially since there's one right before it.
While I get that it's a big thing for stores and whatnot, by the time Christmas rolls around, I'm usually sick to death of seeing it every time I go out of my house or turn on the TV.
And god help the first radio station to start playing Christmas music this year.
...yeah, I'm a bit of a scrooge XD

We need to remind people that American still has one holiday to get through

The day we won the turkey war with the Native Americans when we first got here. On that day we fough together and we saved mankind from our oppresive turkey overlords.

Yeah, I'm kinda the same way. I guess I take refuge in insanity. And these songs.
I did mention the insanity right?

edit: don't forget this one.

We don't really have any holidays left here in Canada until Christmas, but I've seen nothing yet (other than Starbucks started using holiday cups.) I wonder if that says anything about our/American culture.

That said, I can feel the festive spirit pumping up. Probably just need to get past Remembrance Day first.

Ever before Halloween the department store down the street already had Christmas stuff up. I thought that was just so over the top.

"This is madness!" "THIS. IS. CHRISTMAS!"

On a slightly less manic note, I know what you mean. It's always confused me why places start shelving holiday stuff before another big holiday (i.e. Christmas before Halloween). It's especially weird when they do them at the same time.

This has been going on for years. It boils down to the retailers knowing there isn't much money in Halloween, and pretty much none in Thanksgiving, so they do what they can to stretch the Christmas buying season out as long as they can. This is coming from someone who is most definitely not a scrooge, by the way.

Several stores in my town had Christmas decorations up before Halloween. And while I do find it annoying to a degree, I can understand it coming from the stores point of view. I mean in the current economy, are you going to spend a whole lot of money on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas? Chances are no, most people are likely to skim on the more "minor" holidays and save for Christmas. So might aswell cash in on it.

Edit: Ninja'd...damn
