Hey everyone, I wanted to talk about Christmas.
Yes, I don't like Christmas, the singing, the jolly fat man in a suit and the freaking greed.
Plus I'm a bit envious when I see all the spoiled kids around me getting well, so much stuff that they could make someone suffocate.

Yes, I do sound like a little greedy bastard but I don't care, I'm writing my share of the holiday angst, which I always have around me.
So, escapists have you ever been through a poor Christmas?
(Don't come with the point of "it's about family, sharing blablabla", what I can't stand is that people cockslap you that they own much more stuff then you).

*grumble,grumble*

I made a youtube video last year about everything I hate about Christmas but I won't post it because it sucked and I don't want to get banned.
then again my family is pretty psychotic so holidays are rough.

I celebrate Cliffmas now. It's alot better. No supernaturalism, more presentget, and nightdrinking.

I LOVE Christmas, it's the only time of year i feel pretty good. Everyone is happy. Thats what i like most. I'll never understand why people go out of their way to hate it.

Back in my day all we had to play with was a piece of string! We had no fat guy in a red suit giving us presents! Now excuse while I go into a corner and snap at anything that looks jolly.

I hate christmas. It's just so fucking gluttonous. Halloween is my favorite, and even then, I can't go up to the Dollar Tree to buy myself a sack of candy since I'm apparently "Too old" to trick-or-treat without Santa poking his jolly red ass at me.

Also, y'know, there's all the other reasons too.. People go nuts, the holiday favors the rich, has deviated from it's meaning, blah, blah, blah.

I can understand why a lot of people don't like Christmas, but personally I love it. I'm really family orientated so it's a big deal when we spend a lot of time together.

One thing I hate (and this is in agreement with the OP) is people who love to rub in their presents or the amount of money they got. This is my first Christmas with a full time job and I'm happy to be buying things for others.

Short and sweet: I love it, I see why people don't.

From when I was born to when I was 12 my family was very poor, but somehow my parents were able to give me and my two siblings gifts.

Now that my family has money and I'm a grumpy teenager I don't really want anything for Christmas. /facepalm

I think the holiday is fine but maybe it'd be better if it would snow more often..

I love Christmas. Nothing, and I mean nothing will ever make me hate it. Sure companies push the hell out of it for marketing and whatnot, but I just ignore all that.

Its the one time where I wake up with a smile on my face, where I'm happy 24/7. And its just a joy. Not because of presents or anything like that, but just because its the damn holidays. I'll just let Mr. Garrison take it from here:

I always have a great Christmas. So many new games to play!
Yeah, pretty much. Not to mention the relatives who don't know what to get, and just give you money. Just head out and pick out some awesome things you've been dying for, but didn't have the money for. I know I have a few big things that Christmas money is going to this year.

For some reason, this thread remind me of this:

Oh noooooo, the evil atheist is trying to steal Christmas! The monster! I'm personally insulted by this as an atheist myself, but it's also hilarious.

By the way, this isn't a fake trailer or anything, that movie really exists.

I've found that Christmas is just like every other time of the year: if you only let all the bad bother you to a point where you can't enjoy any of the good, then of course you're going to have an awful time. And if you're going to be that stubbornly petty about it, then you probably don't deserve to have a good time, anyway. You can't have a good time if you don't put yourself in a position and mindset to do so. And that doesn't just apply to the Christmas season: it applies to every single day of your life.

Yeah, I love me some Christmas, even though I haven't gotten anything the past two years. Hopefully I'll get something this year, like a scarf!

That's why Australian Christmas is better!

On December 18th, 1788, less than a year after the first settlers colonized Australia, an old cutthroat named Nicolas Crowder arrived on a boat with some other new settlers, took one look at the heat and privations, said "screw this," commandeered the boat, and set course on a one-man voyage to conquer the South Pole. Legend tells that he lives there still.

Every December 18th, "Old Nick" returns down under to find out if Australia's children have been naughty or nice. The nice children are given the greatest gift of all -- they are not abducted along with the naughty ones and carted off to the South Pole.

For the next twelve months, the naughty children make toys to Old Nick's exacting specifications. Then, on December 17th, the presents are gift-wrapped, placed in a sleigh, and driven to Old Nick's mansion, where he opens them. Naturally, given the sheer number of hats and weapons Old Nick receives, there are bound to be duplicates -- and every December 18th, he posts them online, selling them at prices so low that he's practically giving them away.

AGREEMENT! This person speaks the TRUTH! Of course you're not going to enjoy Christmas if you go out of your way to not enjoy it. If you just spend the holidays dwelling on how miserable you are, all you are going to be is miserable. That's one big reason I really enjoy the holidays. Most people, at least for that short amount of time, take time off from whatever makes them miserable in their otherwise daily lives to come together and celebrate. Let the worries of the world take a break and just enjoy yourself and the company of those whom you love.

Of course, being an ocean away from my family and closest friends, I have not been able to see them these past couple years, but that doesn't mean I still can't have a nice, peaceful time around the holiday season. I just make myself some egg nog, maybe buy a batch or two of cookies, and sit back and enjoy my favorite Christmas specials and Christmas carols. The past two years, I even put up a little Christmas tree in my apartment! No room for it in my new apartment this year, but oh well. I'll actually have some company for Christmas this year, so it's all good. Just learn to enjoy life this holiday season. That gift to yourself will be better than any gift you'll get from anyone else.

Ah Christmas.

The days we have a tree *inside* of the house and celebrate absolutely nothing.
If only I had a family I'd care celebrating anything with.

Wow, I've never seen a Christmas movie that was specifically designed to insult my intelligence before.
