Apparently, during filming LotR, Jackson wanted a death scene redone, and Lee pointed out that he knew what someone dying from being stabbed in the back sounded like from personal experience.

Watching Saruman's death scene in the Two Towers Extended Cut is going to feel awkward for a while.

Well, there goes one giant of cinema history. Nobody can really say that he didn't go out with dignity, or live life to its fullest. Hell, you could write a whole book just listing all the awesome stuff the man did: actual, real WW2 spy, opera and heavy metal singer, renowned actor still working in his 90s, Saruman, Dracula and Count Dooku... the guy has a massive track record. How many people, let alone world famous actors, can boast such a long and colourful career? Kudos, and rest in peace, you wonderful man.
