This, this and more this! Instead of making mmorpgs feel more like a world where everyone is participating and doing his thing, Blizzard are doing the exact opposite with what is possibly the worst Chosen One syndrome I have ever seen.Giving everyone the same bloody backstory of how they singlehandedly destroyed Kezan on their very lonesome is such an immersion breaker, I mean I know I don't go to play WoW for immersion but it seems like they aren't even trying anymore.Jim Grim said:I don't think you can pull off a storyline centralised around your character in an MMO. There are going to be thousands of bombs kicked into that volcano, no wonder it goes off.
So far as we're aware, both Silvermoon and Exodar (and the rest of BC content) will remain largely unchanged. At least, that's how they are currently.Eldarion said:Did they redo any of the other races starting zones? What does silvermoon look like now?
Fortunately, this has not been the case at all. I've played both gob and worgen to lvl 45 and the questing experience for each has remained largely top notch. For the Horde I've played through Aszhara, Ashenvale, Stonetalon, Desolace, Feralas, South Barrens, Northern Stranglethorn, Cape of Stranglethorn, Arathi, and Hinterlands. For the Alliance I've played through Darkshore, Westfall, Redridge, Darkshire, Northern Stranglethron, Cape of Stranglethorn, Teldrassil, Ashenvale, Stonetalon, Desolace, Feralas, and Southern Barrens.Rack said:The reference point is surely the amazing Death Knight starter zone. I'd love to believe that, but it just doesn't sound practical. There are 3000 new quests in Cataclysm, if even a third of them are as creative, interesting and rich as most of the Death Knight quests were then that means Cataclysm has significantly more content than WoW, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and five years of content patches combined. The Dane said:Fortunately, this has not been the case at all. For my money, the coolest of the redone zones is Stonetalon (esp. for Horde). On its heels is Westfall (which plays out like a CSI murder mystery), Redridge (which homages Rambo), Desolace (where you get to help the centaur tribes get their act together and get to spend time transformed into a naga), the Cape of Stranglethorn (which escalates the war between Booty Bay and the local pirates), and Ashenvale (which has the Alliance and Horde in the midst of a devastatingly pitched battle to control the area - actually, almost all Kalimdor is deeply involved the fresh war between H & A).
And for the most part, each of those zones is wholly new with a number of inventive quests. Largely I was surprised by how few kill X quests there were. (And the times when there were such quests, it was a natural bundle with one or two other quests, so that even if you weren't assigned that number of heads for bounty, you'd probably end up meeting the requirement anyway).
The only ready-for-testing zone I've played through that left me less than satisfied is Arathi (which features astonishingly few changes). I'm hoping Blizzard will revisit the zone before launch because it could be awesome but just isn't.
What does cel-shading have to do with series consistency?Marmooset said:Uh, yeah - soon they'll do something as hackneyed as cel-shading...Eukaryote said:This whole "looks too much like a modern town/city" thing is a major turn off for me.
Man, the panties are in a bunch today. Look at my post, then look at what I responded to. In my own half-assed way, I'm defending the game.Shjade said:What does cel-shading have to do with series consistency?Marmooset said:Uh, yeah - soon they'll do something as hackneyed as cel-shading...Eukaryote said:This whole "looks too much like a modern town/city" thing is a major turn off for me.
These are goblins. Goblins in Warcraft have always been loopy explosive tech guys, from their intro with jetty zeppelins and suicidal explosives to the battletech-style powersuit foresters and rocket-pulled racing skiffs. Explosive steampunk city is the norm: welcome to being a Warcraft Goblin. It's not for everyone, but it's not Blizz trying to modernize their game. This is just the Goblin style of things.
Related: if it bothers you that much you'll probably want to avoid Gnomeregan, too. From vanilla. In the Gnome/Dwarf starting zone. Yeah, tech's been in the game from very early on.
You may want to avoid any WoW related article from now until Cata release. Almost all will contain spoilers, especially if you're cautious and want to know nothing about the story line.MaltesePigeon said:SPOILERS. Yeah, at the top of the article next time, please. I say that because when I play as a goblin I will now know why their island is destroyed. And that makes me sad.
