This makes me happy. I hope Square will listen.

Supposedly, 'I am Setsuna' is the 'new' Chrono Trigger, both visually, thematically (Maybe not time travel, but the other stuff), and gameplay wise. I've got it on the Steam Wish List, at may buy it on day two if the reviews go well. (The Japanese reviews were good, I believe)

As for Chrono Trigger... I'm conflicted. If they did an honest to God, direct and not done by drunk monkey programs PC release, I'd buy the hell out of it. If they made a Hollywood quality movie out of it, or an anime series that didn't cost a fortune, I'd be game.

But this is, after all Square. They make shit movies (Advent Children aside), anime cost a ton, and they can't make a sprite game re-release on anything but phones, which is then ported (Miserably) to PC. So unless they get their shit together, count me out.

I really just want a current thingamajig to play it on. The last time it was released, was way back in GBA days, or the very early NDS days, and that version got a new dungeon and endings, and that's all I want out of Chrono Trigger.

Just put the best version out on some current hardware please D:

No Chrono Trigger is already good on its own.

And you already messed up the lore with Chrono Cross.
I liked Cross. But I hated the fact that Inception made more sense than the 2nd half of that game. Plus it looks like he's talking about a remake like 7 is getting or a film first.

Wasn't there a fan version/sequel a couple years back? Flames of Eternity/Crimson Echos? I never played either so I don't know if they came close to scratching that particular Itch that Cross tried(and failed pretty badly at).

But sadly, Cross was half a good game and half a pretentious bloated mess.

I'm watching a Let's Play of Chrono Cross (Vinesauce). Please, make a new Trigger and not a Cross. In general, flesh out the dialogue a lot more... It doesn't even matter to me if it would be only in written text instead of VO...

I'm very excited for that game, it looks really promising. I've been looking for a new RPG to play for ages. The music is beautiful and the art looks great.

I played Chrono Trigger for the first time recently and was utterly blown away. Such an incredible game. I had mostly ignored RPGs for the most part up until this point but this game made me understand what they can really do. The characters, the world, the story were all incredible. Gameplay was great too, though perhaps lacking in a little depth in some areas. I loved every character on the team and the ways they spoke and interacted were fantastic. Robo's sidequest was my favourite part for the scene by the campfire. And that soundtrack was something very special.

I know they aren't talking about a sequel here but I see a lot of people asking for one. If you ask me the story finished pretty conclusively. A new game would have to be entirely new characters and a new story. A new world even, if they want to keep their timelines consistent. I'd be up for more Chrono Trigger style RPGs any day though. Haven't played Cross yet, though I hear it is good in its own way.

Hopefully a high-end remake would properly capture the aesthetic of the original.

There was a sequel, it was called Chrono Cross. While not sure great as Chrono Trigger, it had some great ideas (like it covered parallel world's instead of time travel) but the 2nd half is just... bad. Really bad. It was obvious they were running out of time to make it. If they stopped focusing on trying to copy Suidoken I guarantee it would've been better.

Sure, more Chrono Trigger would be good. It would have to be a new story, but I don't think they could live up to the hype.

That leaves a remake, like they are doing with FF7. And ehhhhh, it really depends how the FF7 remake turns out before I would be game for a Chrono remake.
