Church Gets Exciting in New Hitman: Absolution Screens

If you've ever wanted to see a picture of a priest about to bury a fire ax in a man's skull, you need to take a look at these new Hitman: Absolution screens.

For various reasons, I'm actually not much of a Hitman fan, but I do like these new screens from the upcoming Hitman: Absolution [http://www.amazon.com/Hitman-Absolution-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0H2G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326384735&sr=8-1]. They're bloody and violent, which is always a plus, but the real giggle comes from seeing the intrepid Agent 47 wearing a clerical collar while he dispatches scumbags with an ax and burns down a church.

It's also interesting to note that he's got a Band-Aid covering the bar code on the back of his skull, presumably to hide the fact that he's a genetically-enhanced clone assassin. Because who's going to notice that, right? Maybe somebody should suggest to 47 that he try growing some hair. Or buy a hat; I bet a nice, classy fedora would really set off that expensive suit he wears.

Hitman: Absolution is set for release later this year for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Aaah, nothing like a little controversy to stir up public interest. Especially that one shot of him holding a book labeled 'Holy Bible'.

Awesome screens nonetheless. It's good to see you can still play dress-up (fine, I'll say 'disguise yourself') into other characters to sneak about, but there seems to be a large focus on combat. I hope they keep an at least equally large focus on the stealthy bits.

Yes, the perfect way to go on about an assassination is to whip out a shotgun and shoot everyone.

Really enjoyed Blood Money, but sorry, it seems like there's way too much focus on combat. Most likely not buying.

if I may be honest, the first picture, the one with the axe, looks amazingly unnatural and stiff

Nope.

The Hitman Absolution looks terrible, it is going to do what Conviction did for Splinter Cell. In the interviews they talk of a "cinematic experience" and wanting to appeal to a wider audience; those are massive red flags and so far it looks like another victim of casualisation.

One of the features they show off is a special hitman vision where you can see the outlines of the baddies and their path and a move pulled straight from Splinter Cell Conviction that lets you tag and automatically kill baddies.

Serious fuck this game, im going to play Blood Money again.

Is this speculation or a confirmed feature?

Really? I've read nothing about the game, but based on the screens I like how the new graphical style is more animated. In my opinion it looks like the gameplay is going to be incredibly smooth.

And as for appealing to a wider audience, well it is appealing to me, so kudos to them for causing me to be interesting in a franchise I normally would look right past.

Wait... Hasn't there always been a church in hitman? Soes he not live in the grounds of one, and always ends up having to do a mission around one somehow...? This isn't really new...

No kudos whatsoever.

"Appealing to a wider audience" is turning into a stupidly harmful game plan. If people do not like your games, but plenty of others do, then fuck them.

They have promised "hide in plain sight" stages like the old games. If they pull those off im cool with the rest.
That's only half of it though - the other great thing was the big open levels. So far, both previews have been heavily linear.

Gamesradar's preview seemed like it could barely hide the sheer disappointment, and RPS was only marginally more hopeful.

In the second, and I don't think you could don a vicar's outfit. Although you're right, this isn't that big considering some of the outfits in Blood Money.

Oh sweet baby mystical creature, first Splinter Cell, now Hitman?
Now I'm scared from Thief 4. I'm sorry, I meant Thifourf.

I hope that the "wider appeal/market" monster doesn't claim any more victims.

I like to think that it's like Deus Ex Human Revolution
remember that pretty much every gameplay trailer and screenshot showed that outlining thing? but then it turned out that it wasn't forced and you had to unlock it?
hope it's the same here

The problem is that Deus Ex: HR and Hitman are two different games. Hitman should be a game which challenges your planning skills, and your improvisation skills when things go afoul. You are supposed to be the ghost who leaves no trace of his presence. With a seeing through walls- ability the whole planning aspect is undermined, as the game turns into an action platformer of sorts where you just navigate your way to the goal without having to plan ahead.

Exactly...my favourite thing about the old Hitman games was having to play each level 30 times to work out the best possible way to perform a hit. Even if the guide-o-vision is optional, i have the feeling that the gameplay has been designed fairly linearly to accommodate it.

Dude, you've played blood money. You can do that IN BLOOD MONEY. Hell, when I went through blood money the first time my only complaint was that their wasn't a decent combat section. Sure if i fucked up I got to shoot a couple agents but the gunplay wasn't good. They've improved that now and its a bad thing?

You know I was going to defend the game until I saw that video. God dam that looks shitty. It just removes all of the difficulty from the game.
Dude, its the same thing in blood money, you just have a map rather than a path. Then again, I actually liked SC: Conviction (considering you can still be stealthy, it just gave you more options) so maybe i'm biased.
