So i was playing with my brother tonight. Pretty long game verse 2 AI. New to civ and all that.

Well near the end my brother was getting frustrated cause he would ask me something about his troops. like are they far enough away from the city so i can nuke it. well i couldnt see his troops.

we just assumed it was a visual glitch and continued to play. about 45 mins later we realised the problem. at some point during the game we had been seperated and replaced with AI. so i was playing with an AI instead of my brother and he was doing the same.

earlier a load screan came up for us, we werent sure why but everything seemed fine afterwards. i would think that was the time our games split but we had been trading resources up until the end of the game.

So is this a normal problem for civ games? or was it just bad luck for me and a whole lot of wasted time.

Huh that's interesting. I haven't played Civ 5 online because it seems it would take about 8 or so hours just to play thru a small game. Did you guys save the game and were trying to load it back up the next day or something?

Not super common, but that is Civ's natural reaction to a lost connection. You both just somehow either didn't get the disconnected message or skipped over it.

nah we had been playing for like 3 hours or so before we noticed any problems with ai replacing us. and no it hadnt been saved or loaded. after finding the problem we went to load it from a save but in the save i had been replaced with an ai and also the ai had done some wierd stuff to my cities like building things in different spots so we just game up.

yeah i didnt see anything about a disconnection. all i got was a load screen but everything seemed normal after that.

where does it notmally say you have been disconnected? in on of those circle things on the right of the screen that say things like discovering resources or units under attack?

Also i got a access denied message when i came here. i thought that i had been banned. but i restarted my modem and now its fine. i guess that was also causing my problem with civ 5.

Well the only thing I can think of then is one of you lost connection so it replaced you with an AI, I'm surprised the game doesn't tell you your partner disconnected.

Nope its a fairly obvious pop up in the middle of the screen. If you guys were playing on LAN that may have had something to do with it. While they have optimized internet multiplayer, LAN support has always been hit and miss with Sid's games. Picky router's can cause Desync which Civ will take as a disconnection completely. As well Civ4 didn't deal well with Dlink routers if you had two people on lan and 1 surfing the net. The router would always give priority to the web surfer, killing the lan session.
