Civilation games?

I seen the newest Sid Myer's Civilization coming out and was wondering if there were other games similar to the civilization games that aren't actually Sid Myer's. A game where you basically control a planet and change it to fit your preferences.
Also, for discussion value: What civilization game do you like? Or do you not like and civ. games at all? And why?

I personally like the Civilization Revolution game myself but then I've never been able to play any others yet.

I prefer Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri. It's pretty much civilization, but colonizing an alien planet.
