Civilization in L4D1?

Okay, after one of these threads on The Escapist lead me over to TV Tropes and I wasted an hour reading, I decided to waste another hour and looked up Left 4 Dead. One thing that stuck out in my mind was a statement that you could occasionally hear gunfire throughout the city from other survivors.
And then I thought of something else. I remembered the boat that you had to get on in Death Toll, and I've decided to ask this question:
"How would you, if stuck in the L4D universe, live?"
Would you use your boat to pick up as many survivors and take them to a clean island, or would you simply hunt down all The Infected. Give me your thoughts on this.

But on topic, I would hope to round up a small posse, 5 people at most, and try our best to escape that hell. But specifically I don't know how because I've never been in the situation and have always assumed that in the event of a zombie invasion, I'd be among the first to go.

I wouldn't... Yes I know I'm being a smartarse but seriously it's so much more fun playing as an infected in L4D!
