That is almost everyone in the U.S.A. unfortunately. Very few people here know about RASH, SHARP, AntiFa, ect.
Unfortunately more than a few skinheads don't know it either.

The looks on their faces is priceless when they start dribbling their whitepower bullshit to me and I go off my head at them. (A SHARP since '91)

Also, it's a bit odd SHARP isn't better known in the US, it was born in NYC in '88.

What was wrong with the skinheads?

Were they being dicks or are you one of those people who think all skins are white supremacists?

Where I live the majority of "skinheads" are men like me swearing it's because it's practical, while in reality it's just a cover up to hide our receding hairlines and bald spots.

Last year, I was talking to a German exchange student at my school (who, unfortunately for the awesome level of the U.S. but fortunately for the awesome level of Germany, is back in Germany now). I remember in one conversation we had about punk rock, he listed among classic punk bands: Anti-Flag.

Anti-Flag is my favorite band. I've listened to all their albums many, many, many times (yes, even Bright Lights of America). However, I never really thought of them as classic punk. They first formed in 1988, and only played for one year, then reformed permanently in '93. I had always thought of punk "classic" as being mid to late 70s stuff. Early 80s for hardcore punk.

So, I was just wondering- what would you guys refer to as "classic" punk.
I wouldn't refer to any punk as "classic". I see where you're going with it, but putting those two words together seems wrong somehow. However, if I was forced at gunpoint to marry punk with something resembing the "c" word, I certainly wouldn't think of Anti-Flag just because they're too recent if nothing else.

As an aside, Avril Lavigne is great, not all skinheads are racists, and AntiFa are idiots.

I like the Dead Kennedies.

And Avril Lavigne.
Hahaha.

Its funny because it implies that Avril Lavigne plays punk music.
It's funny because it imples that Avril Lavigne plays music.
Words cannot describe how hard I laughed.

Yeah, but American media just portrays skinheads as racists. Its not really the people's fault as much as the fault of the media.

I actually highly respect the non-racist skinheads. They are more in line with the original ideal of pride of the common man, and rebelling against established authority than these neo-nazi asses you see walking around. Especially SHARP, RASH and Red Action. AntiFa doesn't seem to be quite as good a group of guys even though I agree with their ideology.

Sex Pistols and The Clash comes to mind. Both good bands.

As for later punk, The Dead Kennedys are one of my top favourites.

EDIT: Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly should also be mentioned as "good bands" in the "later punk" category of mine.

I listen to a bit of Sex Pistols and Ramones.

I also like Rise Against and Anti-Flag, arguably two of a minority of bands still carrying the "true punk" banner.

This raises the question: what defines true punk? Is it a musical style or is it something else?
