Quite simply, this thread is a list of things they do in all sorts fictional stories, from games to books to movies, that irritate you when repeated. Example:

Quote from Yahtzee: "why is it that after any sort of apocalypse, people rush to strap severed animal heads to pots and pans? I mean how hard would it be to loot your local walmart or mall for clothes".

See where this is going?

Welp, looks like this thread has popped up again.

Alright, I'll take "saving-this-random-woman-on-the-basis-of-vague-or-stupid-reasons" for 600, Alex.

I really hate the "trials and tribulations of the main plot contritely brings back divorced couple". It's just so insincere and forced. I think I responded with "Gayngels" in the last version of this thread.

That whole samurai quick draw sword thing. Never understood it, never liked it. So terribly, inefficient.

I hate how they try to make some female characters as cool and beautiful possible but somehow forget to give her a personality. Sex sells more then character development.

"It's quiet. A little TOO quiet.?

>_>

It's the line characters say when the writers know the audience knows exactly what's about to happen.

The cynical naysayer in zombie movies who does his level best to undermine the efforts of whoever's leading the survivors.

I pray for a zombie movie where, within the first 5 minutes, this guy has been ostracised from the group and left to get infected. Or had a bullet put through his head for being insubordinate, a traitor and a coward.

Black stereotypes. Cole Train is awesome but c'mon developers. Not the only one obviously but think Shorty from Scary Movie. Obviously parody but think about it.

"We need to restore power, but there isn't a single button that does everything. All the generators are scattered 10,000 miles away. HAVE FUN!" As Nikolai says in CoD Zombies-"If this were Russian, there wouldn't be so much running around. You would press ONE button, and it would work."

Also - in horror films, the Masked Killer who can outrun, outfight, and just generally outperform the entire cast of physically fit teenagers... and when unmasked turns out to be a scrawny kid, a middle-aged woman or elderly man.

Who, as soon as they are unmasked, lose all of aforementioned physical abilities.

This this this this THIS. I absolutely despise "chosen one" stories. The worst one I've ever read is "In The Small" by Micheal Hague.

Hmm. We're looking for something incredibly dangerous that has already murdered half of us and scattered their entrails about the place... I know! Let's split up to look for it! I'm sure nothing horrendously gruesome will happen to the guy that we've all been saying was going to die from the start.

"This one thing is the key to the destruction/salvation of the world!"

"The usurper is always smarter, wealthier, and more resourceful than the protagonist will ever be, and yet always loses in the end because he's also always a dick."

"Water is the deadliest force in video games." Games to this damn day are guilty of it, too.

The church being evil. The priest is a gay pedo, and it's always a man. Christians being racist, sexist, narrow-minded people that will kill you on the spot. Same goes for Muslims being terrorist. British guy is usually the bad guy. Atheists are smarter then everyone. Black people being Gs, white people are the uncool evil losers. Big strong dude gets the sexy girl.

The Redshirt army.

I hate it how (usually in terrible action movies) the hero is being escorted somewhere by a highly trained team of soldiers/SWAT teams who all die insanely fast once the bullets start to fly, thus leaving the protagonist to go on by himself.

And this. This pisses me off to no end.
