Whats the most annoying or ridiculous cliches you see in movies or tv shows.

The most recent one i have seen that i dont understand is that if you dont have a bed you sleep in the bath. what the hell, if i didnt have a bed the last place i would consider sleeping is in the bath. why is it that in alot of shows people sleep in the bath.

makes no sense

how about you?

I think that's just the animators making fun of fanservice, but I don't know.

OT: Taking a premise with merit and ruining it with its execution.

righteous, steroid-infused manchild defeats the intelligent, scrawny villain who is actually just good with a harsh logic.

which is why the watchmen is the greatest graphic novel ever for defying this.

The commonly overused and impossible to avoid lining between overly stereotyped and repeated to repeated, with no plot, and is so equality based that conflict ceases after about ten episodes.Honestly, television is just kind of killing itself with old ideas and new ideas being ground up and assimilated into the hive mind of that big box we call entertainment.

Those things are warm in the winter and cold in the summer.
Put a mattress in a bathtub and I can assure you you will have a better night's sleep than you would on any bed.
I used to sleep in mine all the time when I was a kid. WAY more comfortable than an old mattress on the floor.

Anyway, the old Kick The Dog trope really ticks me off when executed poorly.
"I AM EVIL LOOK HOW I TREAT THIS PUPPY *boot*"
It's not showing instead of telling when you make it so blatantly fucking obvious.

Might not want to watch Eiken then. I think I spelled that right...Anyway, yea, don't watch it. On top of having that issue, it's very shallow and not all that well done. I didn't even finish watching the series.

OT: I'd say taking any stereotype and overplaying it, and taking the seemingly stereotypes characters and having them turn out not sterotyped. For example, the tough guy that's an absolute jerk turning out to have a heart of gold, the cheerleader who seems to have little more than pom poms on the brain and turns out to be really smart, etc etc.

This, specifically, books which are turned into movies which are horrible in thier own right, and exponentionally so when compared with the awesomeness of the book.

The fact that pragmatic characters are instantly evil. Even if they are attempting to achieve a greater good. Bugs me every time. Usually they have some kind of kitten-stomping moment or "It's just business" hastily added in but it's become so ingrained in TV and movies that no one ever questions it. And it annoys me every time.

-The bad guy killing a random thug to prove he means business. If done right, it's fine, but most of the time, it's just a generic "shoot him in the face or stab him".

-Two people who clearly like each other have some lame excuse for not being together. And it's ALWAYS a stupid reason.

-"Heroes NEED to be stupid for the plot to advance" syndrome. I mean you take a smart character, and he makes blatantly stupid mistakes to make the bad guy form a threat.

The bad guy is a just an asshole for no apparent reason or for reasons that make no sense...

Small corporations or groups are able to produce technology that dwarf multi=trillion dollar nations...

Damn, that took a lot of words to say nothing. Name some of these ideas genius, that was kind of the point of the thread.

That last point is called The Idiot Ball on tvtropes.org and is the bane of good story writing. For example, in the show Heroes we have Hiro Nakamura, whose power is stopping and traveling through time at his whim. The only reason any bad guy is a threat is because Hiro holds an Idiot Ball of epic proportions. If I could manipulate time like he can, no "villain" would ever stand a chance.

Anyone with self ambition is instantly a bad guy, you must give your life to the collective whole and embrace the 'power of friendship' in order to be good. Ugh!

Also, common in many RPG's, the evil unstoppable force who have annihilated entire armies at will and crushed kingdoms, are stopped by a band of, usually, three people who met in a local tavern. (Thank you last remnant for trying to avoid this) Seriously if these ultimate armies are so unstoppable, why are a whiny bunch of novice fighters kicking their fucking ass?

When the villain says they are evil or have an evil plan.

That's an instant way for me to never take you seriously again...

And its annoying sister trope If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten. The whole "you're not really evil until you do something completely gratuitous" thing generates more facepalms than outrage.
